The earth is empty by nature, and those who know the Dharma of selflessness, which is pure by nature, will never give rise to non-discipline at any time, because they are taught to be truly determined in this way. Those who know that the five aggregates are empty, solitary, selfless, and empty by nature, and who practice bodily conduct in any action, will not fail to give rise to discipline. This is extensively stated. Those who do not truly understand the meaning of the scriptures as they are, but who clearly show that some things are existent and some things are non-existent, are said to have their thoughts shown to be inverted. To say that one is existent and one is non-existent is neither the ultimate truth nor the worldly. When one wants to talk about worldly things, one should accept all five aggregates as measured by worldly thoughts, based on the distinction between inner and outer meanings. When one wants to talk about the ultimate truth that transcends the world, one should say that all five aggregates are empty by nature, based on the wisdom of the noble ones. Other than that, an opponent who desires one thing and does not desire another will not be able to speak of the ultimate truth or the worldly. Whoever is like this, therefore, cannot say, "This exists, why does this not exist?" If the mind and mental events exist, then the pot and cloth also exist, because they are famous throughout the world. If the pot and cloth are non-existent when analyzed, then the mind and mental events will also become non-existent, because both are devoid of reason. Therefore, it is impossible to say, "This exists, but this does not exist." Here it is said: Although I cannot answer you, those who will answer you will arise in the teachings of the Tathagata with diligence. It should be said that your hope is false, like this: "Existence, non-existence, and existence-non-existence, for whom there is no partiality, even for a long time, it is impossible to argue." If there is an attachment to partiality, then it is established by other means, rather than that.

However, if a very long time could refute it, then for that which does not have any complete clinging, by abandoning both aspects of existence and non-existence, even a long time cannot be said to refute it. Just as the form of the sky is impossible, so even a long time cannot make it possible, similarly, opponents cannot refute the statement of emptiness, because all three aspects of its basis are impossible. The wise should understand that refuting the statement of emptiness is like striking a picture in the sky with a whip. Furthermore, just as the darkness that is dispelled and destroyed by the collection of rays of the sun in the sky cannot make the collection of rays of the sun dim, even after a long time, similarly, it should be understood that the darkness of the tenets of all opponents is also dispelled by the rays of the sun of realization through meditating on deep, vast, and inconceivable dependent origination. It is also said: Just as the incomparable sunlight in this world destroys and will destroy great masses of darkness for a long time, so too, the non-dual sun that benefits beings is the destroyer of the darkness of tenets such as existence and non-existence. This eye of wisdom, which was obscured by the darkness of speculative tenets, has now been opened. May all beings, through the merit gained from this, see that reality with the eye of wisdom. From the Four Hundred Verses on the Yogic Deeds of Bodhisattvas by the master Āryadeva, the explanation of the sixteenth chapter, which is called "Teaching the Meditation on the Ascertainment of the Teacher and the Disciple." The commentary on the Four Hundred Verses, composed by the master Chandrakīrti, is complete. In the center of the glorious city of Unequaled, in the monastery of Hidden Jewels, the Indian abbot named Suṣmājñāna, who was born into a lineage of paṇḍitas for countless generations, the chief of the great Brahmin Ratnavajra, the only son of the great Brahmin Sadjñāna, passed away in peace.
