Therefore, effort is fruitless. If it does not exist, then even if there is diligence at that time, effort is fruitless because there is no limit. It should be declared that this cannot be grasped definitively. For what reason? Because there is no inherent existence. Because there is no inherent existence, having limits and not having limits are both because they have the cause of knowledge and ignorance, and these two also depend on many other conditions, and these conditions are also extremely rare, so both of these cannot be definitively established. To show that there is no certainty, it is said: The listeners, what is to be heard, and the speakers, are extremely difficult to find. Therefore, in short, samsara is, not without end, not with end. Among them, a person who abides in leisure and endowment becomes a listener. If he now hears the teachings of a virtuous friend and is able to contemplate the meaning of his teachings, then that leisure and endowment is also extremely difficult to find. If what is heard is a teaching that is in accordance with the truth, that is also extremely difficult to find, because speakers and listeners are extremely rare. If the speaker is the Thus-Gone One, that is also extremely difficult to find, because the appearance of the Thus-Gone One is as rare as the flower of the Udumbara. In this way, all three, the listener, what is to be heard, and the speaker, are extremely difficult to find. It is extremely difficult because one does not see what will definitely arise and what will definitely not arise, so it is said. If these three jewels are gathered together, one cannot say that it is without end because one sees the limit of samsara; and if they are not gathered, one cannot say that it is with end because one does not see the limit. Among them, regarding the fourteen things that the Blessed One did not reveal, whether samsara has limits or does not have limits, he did not acknowledge, and in short, it is for this reason. Regarding not acknowledging, other reasons, those who are in accordance with those who speak of emptiness, have not elaborated on it either. Therefore, now, because it depends on conditions, as long as the collection of conditions for limits and no limits is not complete, the wise should protect.

Therefore, it is appropriate to strive to completely exhaust karma. Like the Udumbara flower. Just as the Udumbara flower is extremely rare, so too are listeners, what is to be heard, and speakers extremely rare. Therefore, for the staff, it is neither with an end nor without an end. Here it is said: Why is it that from the assembly of causes and conditions, knowledge arises? Because these three are difficult to obtain, therefore, the definite end is not shown. If it is said that as long as the scriptures remain, then virtuous friends and their teachings exist. Therefore, I think that in the life of others, I can completely exhaust samsara. This is unreasonable. Even if the scriptures exist, both exist, even so, listeners are impossible to exist. Why? Because most people hold the side of non-saints. Therefore, ordinary people mostly certainly fall into evil destinies. Because sentient beings are mostly blinded by ignorance and are happy to see others suffer, and because they encounter non-saints, they continuously create the ten non-virtuous paths of killing and so on, so these people mostly fall into evil destinies. If someone says that someone who dwells in the path of non-virtuous actions will be reborn in a good destiny, this is impossible and there is no opportunity. Therefore, it is called ordinary people, because beings are produced separately. Therefore, if one truly sees oneself surrounded by the burning fire of suffering in evil destinies in the future, if one does not quickly repent like one's head is on fire, Then, this is like a king being enthroned from the head of a minister, like carrying a Shana tree. Just as two people went for the Shana tree, and when they returned, they saw two bundles of cotton. Then, one abandoned the Shana wood and picked up the cotton. Similarly, someone came back carrying gold, while the other thought, I have been carrying this for so long, how should I abandon it? Like this, only carrying Shana wood, like the great Ishvara and so on.

However, due to attachment to one's own sect, even if one possesses the reasoning of equal intelligence, one does not respect the words of the Buddha, and one might even say: How can we completely abandon the tenets that we have long adhered to? Here it is said: In order to walk broadly, or in order to walk separately, that which produces broad walking, therefore it is said here to be separate beings. Here it is said: The evil destinies are not places of manifest joy because of the lack of leisure and the presence of various kinds of suffering, but even so, because of merit, the realms of good destinies are places of manifest joy. Because there is freedom from harm there. Therefore, one should not be weary of it. It should be said that, like the evil destinies, one should also be weary of the good destinies, just like this: On earth, the ripening of sin is only reproach, therefore life and existence appear to the virtuous to be the same. Those born in good destinies also experience the ripening of undesirable deeds, as stated in the scriptures, such as the loss of limbs and digits, incomplete senses, poverty, weakness of power, dullness of wisdom, and even the virtuous are suspected of engaging in misconduct, and they experience extremely unpleasant decline. Therefore, to remain in this decline, which appears to be full of flames everywhere, and not strive to destroy it, is utter foolishness, like a king punishing a minister. For example, a certain king had a minister painted, and after the painting was completed, he fearlessly cut off his hands, feet, ears, and nose. Similarly, those who become wealthy and disregard the next life, commit sinful deeds, and when they die, they experience the consequences in hells and other places. When they obtain a human body because of the meritorious deeds that they will experience other times in the future, the remnants of those sinful deeds will accompany them in the form of reproaches such as ugliness. Here it is said: Living
