How can anger arise? For example, unpleasant sounds that are heard do not inherently cause harm. Therefore, it is from conceptual thoughts that one assumes it comes from others and becomes arrogant. Sounds such as insults are not inherently the cause of harm. If they were, then the speaker would also be harmed. It is when one conceptually thinks, "This person is slandering me in this way," that harm arises. Therefore, since the harm arises from one's own conceptual thoughts, why be angry with others? It is like the shepherdess's daughter and the novice. For example, a shepherdess heard the sound of her daughter eating rotten food in the dark. She completely assumed it was Qiongma's daughter, and angrily said, "What is this cow eating?" When her daughter said, "It's me!" she happily said, "Oh, it's just a rat eating!" Therefore, apart from conceptual thoughts, no sound can be pleasant or unpleasant. Also, a novice named Buddha Servant became angry when other novices called him "Buddha Protector." He definitely went to ask the Khenpo, who said, "Go, your name is Dharma Servant." Although those people said the unpleasant "Buddha Servant," he thought, "This is not my name." After hearing it, he was not angry, thinking, "Whose Buddha Servant is unpleasant, my name is different." Here it says: After hearing words without conceptual thought, foolish children become very agitated. After knowing and hearing it firmly, one will not be agitated or happy. Here it says: Insulting itself is a fault, because from this Vinaya scripture, the insulter is punished. It should be said: Like this, for the insulter, it is clearly said that punishment should be imposed. Similarly, why shouldn't the speaker of pleasant words be offered to? If it is said that because hateful insults harm others' hearts, the Vinaya scripture says that the insulter should be punished, then speaking pleasant words can also capture others' hearts, therefore it should also be praised.

Why isn't it said from there that the father should be offered to? Since the reasons are the same, why is it said that one should be punished and is punished, while the other should not be offered to? Therefore, because of the inequality, the treatise on law is not reliable. Like beggars fighting, like elephants fighting. Just as beggars generate the intention to kill and kill simply by fighting, it is not possible to offer in this way with sweet words. Similarly, the weak are killed by elephants, while the strong protect themselves from elephants, why do you speak of elephants in the king's palace and kill him. Here it says: If there is equal view there, Praisers and revilers are both fine, What has been done or not done to those two. Therefore, that is not reliable. Here it says: If reviling makes the faults of others clear to others, how can it not anger the other? It should be said: Even if you do not say what should be reviled, If others know, One should not be angry with the speaker, What to say of speaking untruthfully? Even if the limb that should be reviled, such as disability or ugliness, is not said, but if others know, then even if one reviles because of the fault of truth, but because it is true, one should not be angry with the reviler who speaks the truth, what to say of speaking untruthfully? Because the fault of untrue words causes harm. Since that has been completely lost, how can it be said that that person will abide in the sacred without reservation? It's like speaking of disability and non-disability. Some say that disability is disability, so the king punishes him with punishment. Others say that non-disability is disability. Therefore, the king punishes him with punishment. Similarly, the wise should tolerate the truth, and also tolerate the untruth. Here it says: To those who see the holy ones, Whether it is untrue because it is untrue, Or true because it is true, There is no opportunity for anger. Here it says: Even so, how can one not be angry upon hearing unpleasant words from the inferior? It should be said: Hearing unpleasant words from the inferior.
