For example: Like a washerman's donkey. Just as a washerman's donkey is whipped and driven to turn around, and if it makes a mistake anywhere, it is severely beaten. Similarly, practitioners should not indulge in the use of desire, but should always be vigilant against making mistakes. Just as a washerman treats a donkey pulling a millstone, using whips and other means as if treating a master. A guru should also treat anger like a master. Here it is said: Which guru, if wise, can skillfully tame all disciples, this teacher should accept disciples, a fool is not suitable for taming. The time of arising of these afflictions should also be closely grasped, and timely remedies should be applied. To this, first ignorance arises, in the middle anger will arise, and after that desire arises, there are these three sequences in a day. In the morning, the eyes are blurred by lingering sleepiness, and even when awake, they squint and the mind is distracted by bodily activities, so most of the time they are in a state of ignorance. Afterwards, they enter the wheel of suffering of hunger and thirst, become tired from hunger and thirst, the eyes roll and widen, and even towards the object of opening the eyes, they are displeased as if towards an enemy, experiencing a state full of anger. In the afternoon, when they are free from the fatigue of exhaustion and the senses are completely satisfied, the thief of desire takes the opportunity to enter, easily stealing the wealth of virtuous deeds, making people destitute. Therefore, one should recognize this, maintain vigilance, and reverse the situation like turning back a clock. Just as King Zentaka questioned the Brahmin. Just as King Zentaka promised to give a Brahmin a hundred requests and a hundred jars of ghee, that Brahmin was very happy and thus ignorance arose in him. Ignorance is neither a pleasant feeling nor a painful feeling. Afterwards, in the process of experiencing a hundred requests, a painful feeling arose, and anger arose towards the king. Later, when he received a hundred jars of ghee, he developed gree

Greed arises. Similarly, due to actions performed, mostly due to sleep and drowsiness at night, and due to the increase of phlegm, beings experience ignorance in the morning. Then, due to not doing many activities, being scorched by the sun, the complete elimination of phlegm, and the increase of bile, only anger arises at noon. Afterwards, having bathed and anointed the body and eaten food, and the senses being fully developed, desire arises for those who have completely fulfilled the activities of speech. Thus, due to following the faults of the body, afflictions arise, and three stages occur during the day. Here it is said: Whoever knows the order of afflictions, And cultivates the method to destroy them, He eliminates them, Just like a king of doctors treats diseases. For desire, entering with the treatment of a friend, it deceives the world, and not engaging in intercourse does not cause suffering either. Therefore, to respect it, it is said: Desire, a non-friend resembling a friend, You are not afraid of it there, The difference of a useless friend, Should a person not abandon it? Desire, hatred, and ignorance approach a person through the means of friends, non-friends, and intermediaries. Among them, let's say hatred for a moment, this comes to a person in the manner of an enemy, because its harm is obvious, it is easy to protect oneself from it. Ignorance approaches a person in the manner of an intermediary, because one does not trust it, it is also easy to protect oneself from it. And this desire, disguised as a friend, approaches a person in the guise of a non-friend, because it has the nature of a friend, it is also a friend, and because it harms the life force of the virtuous side, it is also useless, therefore one must especially protect oneself from it. How to protect oneself? By always trusting, with excellent diligence, by relying on its antidote, not giving it the opportunity to arise in the continuum. Like King Kapila. Just as King Kapila went to the forest

While returning to Rongri Dakmo (place name), he heard a sound. Because the sound struck him, he shot an arrow at the ascetic, who then cursed him, saying, "When you engage in sexual intercourse, you will die." Therefore, he, seeking to practice celibacy, abandoned his kingdom and entered the forest. Later, one day, as the sun was setting, he saw his wife, the daughter of King Madri, naked and facing the sun. He thought, "My wife, who can attract even the gods, is so beautiful to behold." Then, due to the control of desire, he engaged in intercourse with her and died. Here it is said: Just as one strictly guards oneself from food that is delicious but harmful, so too, one should diligently guard oneself from desire for beautiful faces. Desire is also of two kinds. What are the two? Like this: Desire arises from a cause, and it also arises from a condition. Desire that arises from a condition is not the easiest to subdue. Afflictions arise from two factors: cause and condition. Among these, the cause is what produces the equal habit of the previous life, which is the nature of the complete growth of the habit of being accustomed to desire. The condition is the unequal and changing nature of this world. For example, when beings such as pigeons, who have the nature of desire, die and are reborn in this world, because of the cause created in previous lives, they also indulge in desire in this life, this desire is called arising from a cause. This also explains indulging in hatred. Furthermore, if someone indulges in desire because of encountering evil friends, then this desire is called arising from a condition. Among these, indulging in desire that arises from a cause is difficult to subdue. Desire that arises from a condition is easy to subdue, because it will not arise if the condition is abandoned, but the other is not. Because its roots are deeply embedded, it is difficult to overcome, and effort is needed to overcome it.
