Just as it is not seen, it is also not true. Just as the young girls created by the cause of the illusion wheel of a magician, although empty of real young girls, those who do not understand their nature will be extremely confused. Just as the moon in the water, which is empty of a real moon, appears due to the power of dependent origination, it becomes a cause of inverted perception of the moon for children. Just as relying on various conditions such as place, time, and cause, and just by the power of dependent origination, an echo arises, it becomes a cause of inverted perception of real smoke for those who are far away. Just as the density of the mountains, the depth of the valleys, and the depths of the wind, the rocks inside them create the illusion of sound that people believe exists. Just as in the difference of place and time, relying on the sunlight that approaches, a mirage, although empty of the nature of water, creates the illusion of inverted water for those who are far away. And just as clouds from afar create inverted images of mountains and so on, similarly, wise people who truly observe the nature of dependent origination, for those who are thrown by the inversion of ignorance, the cycle of existence caused by karma, the arising of consciousness and so on, together with the external world, arises like a fire wheel and so on. Although it is false, of a deceptive nature, and has already lost its own nature, it still appears to delude childish beings, therefore, by understanding the nature of things, in all aspects, attachment is exhausted, and thus one relies on liberation, the cycle of existence, like a fire wheel and so on, has no inherent nature. As it is said: Just as The eye, due to illusion, grasps a fire wheel, similarly, the senses grasp present objects. So it is said. Two true monks and unreal monks, from the "Ratnakuta Sutra," when the Sage had not yet fully passed into Nirvana, the Sage, like the moon...

The sunlight of the sacred Dharma dispelled the darkness of ignorance of those five hundred monks. Similarly, just as in the dream of a young girl, she sees a baby boy being born and dying, rejoicing at his birth and not rejoicing at his death, know that all dharmas are like that. Magicians conjure up various forms, transforming into horses, elephants, and various vehicles, but in reality, nothing appears. Know that all dharmas are like that. Just as the moon rises in the clear sky, its reflection appears in the clear water, but the moon does not move into the water. Know that the nature of all dharmas is like that. In caves, on mountaintops, in the bends of rivers, echoes arise depending on them. Similarly, know that all conditioned things are like that. All beings are like illusions and mirages. Just as in the midday sun of summer, travelers tormented by thirst see mirages as masses of water. Know that all dharmas are like that. There is no water in mirages, but foolish beings desire to drink from them. False water cannot be drunk. Know that all dharmas are like that. Just as in the slightly cloudless sky, a circle of clouds appears in an instant, know from where it originally arose. Similarly, know that all dharmas are like that. Just like mirages, cities of gandharvas, and like illusions and dreams, contemplating the signs, the self-nature appears. Know that all dharmas are like that. Thus and so forth was spoken. From the Four Hundred Verses on the Yogic Practice of a Bodhisattva by the Venerable Āryadeva, the thirteenth chapter, called "Showing the Contemplation of Refuting the Senses and Objects," is the commentary. Here it is said: If, because of dependent origination, existence is without inherent existence like a wheel of fire, an illusion, a dream, and so forth, then what would become inherent existence? No thing can be examined for inherent existence, because such a thing cannot be found in any way. For example, if there is something that does not depend on anything else, then it...

If my own nature could be established, then it would not exist in anything. If something is established and it does not depend on anything else, then, since that independent thing that does not depend on others exists by itself, it can be inferred that it exists by its own nature. However, what kind of thing that arises from cause and condition does not depend on others? Or, something without cause arises, which is also impossible. Because that would fall into the fallacy of no cause, so in something, the self-nature of something, its own essence, does not exist, therefore there is no self-nature in anything. Since there is no self-nature, just like fire wheels and so on, there is also no self-establishment, this is the conclusion. If these things are not false like fire wheels and illusions, and thus will not become non-existent things, then, through definite reasoning, they will appear very clearly in their own essence like haritaki and so on. However, they are the cause of reversal, and will be burned by the fire of analysis, so they will not become things whose own essence does not exist. Things are not contrary to reason, because they are true in all aspects. Therefore, in order to relax the scholars' attachment to things, the following will explain how it is impossible for things such as bottles to have their own nature. Form itself is not one with the pot, the pot with form is also not different, there is no form in the pot and no pot in the form, in the pot there is really no essence of the pot. If there is something called a pot here, then, since it is perceptible to the senses, it will be considered whether it is the same or different. First of all, form itself is not one with the pot, what form is, that is the pot, it is impossible for form and pot to be one. If form and pot are one, then wherever there is form, there is a pot, and all forms will have a pot. And, since chiseling produces merit, when form is destroyed, the pot will also be destroyed, which is also impossible.
