There is no fault, because the objects of eye consciousness, etc., are to be pointed out manifestly, therefore it is called manifest. A pot is merely imputed by discrimination, so it does not have its own characteristic. Whatever does not have its own characteristic, not only is a real manifest impossible for it, but also an established manifest is not possible. Therefore, there is no need to refute the manifest, so just as refuting seeing sound with the eye, refuting a pot is also unreasonable, they say. This logician, because he is completely unfamiliar with worldly affairs, like a young child, should be studied from the very beginning, in order to point this out, one should refute and examine what your manifest is. Answer: Consciousness is manifest. Question: What kind of consciousness? Answer: Consciousness that is free from discrimination. Question: What is discrimination? Answer: It is the mental activity that superimposes names and kinds on objects. Because it is free from these, the five sense consciousnesses can be expressed by the term manifest, because they only apprehend the inexpressible self-characteristic of the object. Because they are the senses and dwell on the senses. Then, how is a single moment of sense consciousness manifest? Because it does not arise relying on the senses and the senses, because it is uncommon. And, the moments of the senses and consciousness arise and immediately perish. If the five aggregates of consciousness are the basis and object of accumulation, so it is not on each of the atoms of the senses and the atoms of the object, individually grasping as the basis or the object. Just as a person with blurred vision cannot clearly see each strand of hair. If it is said that just as each one residing in the aggregate is the nature of the cause, the aggregates of atoms of the eye, etc., are also each the nature of the cause. This is an inappropriate example, because a person without blurred vision can see each strand of hair, and if the eye is damaged, it will become invisible. For the atoms of the senses, outside of the state of aggregation, each atom has its own consciousness.

Since it is not seen as the basis of knowledge, it is unreasonable to consider each of those dwelling in the assembly as a basis. If one cannot ascertain that a minute part has a slight ability, then it is reasonable to similarly consider those dwelling in the assembly. For example, on a single stalk, one can ascertain the ability of flesh flies and long-beaked flies, etc., to entangle legs, and therefore their assembly may even have the ability to entangle elephants. Similarly, sesame seeds each have the ability to produce a small amount of oil, and their assembly may even produce a full jar of oil. However, for the subtle particles of the senses that do not depend on the assembly, each of them is not the basis of knowledge, so there is no harm in relying on the subtle particles. Therefore, relying on the subtle particles of the senses, the eye sense is called, which is equal to the subtle particles, and emptiness, through knowing itself and others, becomes the basis of self-consciousness. Relying on this, it becomes a worldly person, having the function of looking at objects, and because it is momentary, it ceases together with its own consciousness, so how can there be harm? Therefore, it is unreasonable to say that whatever knowledge dwells in the senses and sense objects is manifest. If one thinks, how does the collection of consciousness itself dwell in the senses, and therefore it is explained in such detail? This is also non-existent. Why? Because it is impossible to explain in such detail for a single moment of eye consciousness. Moreover, for the assembly, because it is not a substance, there is no dependence on the senses. Relying on this, becoming the basis of consciousness, how to establish the eye sense? Similarly, one should also understand the establishment of forms, etc., because they also rely on this and are the basis of consciousness. In this way, it is impossible to cognize consciousness manifestly. For objects, it is reasonable. Because for objects, such as the crescent moon, one can immediately see the sense object arising from multiple continuums. For worldly matters, it is unreasonable to abandon the worldly view and rely on other reasons. Therefore, in the world, the object...
