It is only nirvana. These two dharmas, non-harm and emptiness, enable one to attain heaven and liberation. Therefore, here, it is only these two. "Only" means completely pure. In the teachings of the Tathagata, only these two are considered most completely pure, not others. Therefore, those who wish to bring the bliss of heaven and liberation to themselves and others should understand this. Furthermore, why do these non-Buddhists, even though they see the teachings of the Sugata, not respect these two dharmas? It is because they are attached to their own side. Like this: One's own side, for all the world, is as beloved as one's birthplace. So, what is there in the cause that opposes it that could be pleasing to you? Attachment to one's own side is something one has become accustomed to since beginningless samsara. Just as the world cannot completely abandon its own place of birth, so too, because of their excessive attachment to their own views, children do not enter the teachings of the Tathagata. The wise should abandon hope in what has become the cause of lineage, even if it is their own birthplace, and rely on the place that brings wealth. Just as this is, one should abandon attachment to one's own side and incline one's mind to those who possess qualities, even if they are on the other side. Therefore, having become free from falling into sectarian bias in this way, one should take the meaning of reason even from others. The wise, wishing for good, should take what is said well in some place, thinking it is like their own. Is not the sun common to all who have eyes on the earth? Those who possess wisdom should take from wherever something is well said, thinking of it as if it were their own. This dharma does not abide in one place out of jealousy, but because its essence is the same in all places. For example, because it is free from attachment and anger towards all. Just as the sun's activity of illuminating is common to all who have eyes, so too, if this dharma is practiced and perfected, it will benefit all one's own and others' sects. Therefore, having understood this in this way, one should respectfully take this dharma as one's own. The master Aryadeva said

This is a commentary on the twelfth chapter of the Four Hundred Verses on the Yogic Deeds of a Bodhisattva, which is entitled "Refuting Views and Showing Meditation." Here, it is said, "The meaning of reason, even from others, should be taken by the wise who desire goodness." What is the meaning of reason that should be taken by the wise? What is that? It is to be explained: it is seeing that all external and internal things are without self-nature. If it is said that one cannot understand that all things are without self-nature, because things that do not exist, such as a donkey's horn, are not manifestly existent, while things such as a pot and blue color are manifestly existent, therefore all things such as a pot must exist with self-nature, this is not reasonable. For example, when one sees a form, one does not see only the pot. The pot is said to be manifestly existent,

If the near-taker of the pot that has become a mother is not established as such, if this view of dependence as stated before is not accepted, then other permanent things cannot establish the pot. Because apart from form, etc., no other pot is seen, so in that case, only form, etc., can become the consciousness of the pot, and the so-called pot, there is no such thing, if you think like this, then according to this debater's point of view, there will be faults such as constant burning, because without firewood there is no existence of fire, so that is also just completely established by consciousness. Similarly, because the elements and mind and mental factors cannot be established to arise without each other, so like a pot, it is also just established by consciousness, and cannot be established by its own nature. This is not what he admits. Therefore, why not admit that pots, etc., are like mind and mental factors, or like the four great elements, are dependently originated or dependently established? Therefore, the pot is the near-taker of eight substances, becoming the near-taker of its own near-taking, and is the agent of doing the near-taking, is the limb of the world's manifestation, thus established, analyze this. When seeing form, the pot is not all seen, because the pot is the nature of eight substances. The eye can only see form, but cannot see smell, etc., because they are different objects. Therefore, since the eye cannot see all the pots, so without distinguishing the nature of things, the world casually takes its own conceptualization as a measure, and then says that this is the direct perception of the pot. If someone can distinguish and is proficient in the nature of things, and does not think that seeing one side is seeing the mountain, then it should not be said that this is the direct perception of the pot. To this, some logicians say that the pot itself has no direct perception at all, only the self-characteristics of form, etc., appear.
