is pure. Therefore, all who desire liberation should enter this path. What is the use of other near descriptions of doctrinal differences? It should be said that this Dharma has those who are good at speaking and those who are good at explaining, as well as the great essence of the nature of Dharma itself, but even so, the great essence of the listener is very difficult to obtain. For example: An impartial, intelligent, and truth-seeking person is said to be a vessel for listening. Among them, to abide in impartiality is not to be biased towards any side. What does it mean to be unbiased towards any side? It means to be free from attachment to or turning away from one's own side or the side of others. Thus, because the mind stream is afflicted, one should only seek the distinctions of precious good teachings, and therefore, the root of abandoning all afflictions is to abide in impartiality. Therefore, in this way, a listener who abides in impartiality is a vessel for the excellent nectar of the sacred Dharma. Even if one abides in impartiality, if one becomes endowed with intelligence, one will be skilled in distinguishing the essence and non-essence of good and bad teachings. One who possesses intelligence naturally abandons the non-essence and takes the essence. Thus, if the listener becomes endowed with intelligence, then he will become a vessel. Thus, even if one abides in impartiality and is endowed with intelligence, one should take listening to good teachings as the main task, and not be like a wooden puppet who does not strive. Therefore: An impartial, intelligent, and truth-seeking person is said to be a vessel for listening. If the listener is such, then certainly: The qualities of the speaker will not change to others, nor will the listener. Among them, the qualities of the speaker are that the words are precise, not reversed, clear, not confused, and that he understands the listener's intentions, and that there is no confusion in his mind, and so on. The listener should also respect the Dharma and the speaker, rejoice in his heart, abide in impartiality, possess intelligence, and take seeking the meaning as the main task. Taking seeking the meaning as the main task means respecting the Dharma and the speaker, and rejoicing in his heart.

I also understand states such as sleep. If this is the case, the speaker will not have other kinds of merit changes, and the listener will not have other kinds of merit changes either. If the listener is like this, then the speaker's merit will not become the essence of fault. From the listener's fault, merit will also become the essence of fault, and fault will also become the essence of merit. If there exists a listener with characteristics who has already been spoken to, and merits such as those arising from hearing, which serve as the basis for an undeviating collection, then the speaker will not have other kinds of merit changes, and the listener will not have merit becoming the essence of fault. Therefore, even if the speaker is very pure, they will include those listeners who do not consider themselves to have faults in the category of those with faults, because when foolish people praise me, do we not have wisdom? What should we do? There is no one who can discern! That is what he says. This should be understood from the "Sutra on Encouraging Higher Aspiration." Therefore, the Blessed One said: Existence and the means of existence, peace and the means of peace, thus the four truths are taught, those in the world who do not understand, see them as if they were the Sage's view. Among them, existence refers to the five aggregates of appropriation that become the fruit. The means of existence refers to the formations that become the cause. Peace refers to nirvana, because it is the nature of the cessation of all afflictions of appropriation. The means of peace refers to the eightfold noble path. Thus, the Blessed One taught the four noble truths to those who desire liberation, in order to teach the fruits to be accepted and abandoned, along with their causes. For those who possess hearing, thinking, and meditation, and who individually comprehend the truth as it is, the meaning taught by the Blessed One is exactly as it is. But those who do not diligently engage in hearing, thinking, and meditation, when they do not realize that they are not vessels, will think: Why can't we understand the meaning as it is? Surely this person has not explained it correctly. They will mistakenly think that this is the fault of the Sage. Just that is enough to slander the Buddha.
