Then, if (you) do not admit it, then at that time it will become not a Sugata. If you admit it, then at that time the form will be destroyed like eye consciousness, how will it become consciousness? Then, how should this view in the Abhidharma be understood? It should be explained that: the consciousness that arises from the colored sense faculty is what arises to completely cut off the appearance of the present object, and both the object and the consciousness are interrupted by momentary destruction. Afterwards, the mind consciousness arises, just as it arises, born from the power of the causes such as eye consciousness, it is able to distinguish the appearance of consciousness born from the sense faculty and arises, and when it arises, it becomes the one with that appearance, because the cause and effect are free from the distinction of being the same and being different, and the effect mostly follows the appearance of the difference of the cause. After such complete examination, in worldly terms, it is said that it is known by two consciousnesses. Therefore, it is not that one object is known by two consciousnesses, one (consciousness) is what directly cuts off the appearance of the object, that is, the one that is born first. The second (consciousness) is not directly becoming consciousness, but when it arises by distinguishing in this way by the power of sense consciousness, it also knows that object by this, thus it is established. This way of existing is not always able to exist, existence is the self-nature of things that exists, and one's own self-nature is not able to completely cut off the consciousness that does not directly grasp. Therefore, because it is not something that should be completely cut off, there is no existence, and from no existence, things are also non-existent, and time is also non-existent, thus it is established. Here it is said: existence is existence, because it is the self-nature of the present time. Existence means the present time, because the present without existence is impossible. To this it should be said: if there is existence in time, then existence will not become time. If there is no existence, then existence, in the end, will not exist either. To this, if you think that there is existence in time, then

Furthermore, abiding does not transform into time. For example, just as the support and the supported are distinct, Devadatta in the house does not transform into the house itself, so abiding does not transform into time, because it exists in time. Therefore, it is not the nature of time, so it is not the characteristic of time. If abiding does not exist, then time, separated from abiding, is endless, and destruction will not exist either. Therefore, the time that arises now will exist forever. If time is permanent, then the object that arises now will also be permanent. But this is not the case, therefore abiding does not exist. Here it is said: Abiding is existence itself, because the object associated with it has impermanence. An object separated from abiding does not exist, because impermanence without a support is impossible. The object has impermanence, therefore it exists, so abiding also exists. This should be explained: If something called impermanence exists, then is it different from the object or the same? To show that neither is reasonable, it is said: If impermanence is other than the object, the object will not become impermanent. If it is one, what is impermanence? Where does it itself abide? If impermanence is other than the object, then at that time, since impermanence is a different characteristic, the object will become permanent. But the object is not permanent, so being other than impermanence does not exist. If one assumes it to be the same
