It also does not hold. All the changes of things, not only the five coarse visible roots of eye and so on cannot hold, but also the mind root that can completely determine the meaning of subtle, subtle and non-material cannot hold. Since this is the case, present things are considered to exist by those who are not proficient. As the saying goes, although the cause of present things is not observed to be completely changed, even so, those who are not proficient and foolish and cannot determine their own nature think that present things exist. Thus, relative to foolish beings, the so-called present things cannot be fully observed with their own nature, so the three times do not exist. Here it says: All times exist, because its cause, things, exist. Because time itself is not a tangible thing, it can only be measured and determined by relying on things, but not by itself. Therefore, time has a reason to manifest, so time exists. It should be said: If its cause, things themselves, exist, then it is also impossible for this time to exist. To explain how it is impossible, it says: How can there be things without a place? Here, for things that have arising and ceasing every moment, abiding does not exist in any way, and because there is no abiding, the cause of time, things, does not exist either. To explain that there is no abiding, it says: How can there be abiding with impermanence? It is impossible for things devoured by impermanence to have abiding. If abiding exists, then things with abiding will no longer be associated with aging, because aging is contrary to abiding. Also, if it abides at first, then it will not become old in the end. Because it will eventually become not old, it should be understood that there was no abiding at first. From this, it can be seen that there is no abiding. Just like this: How can one consciousness not understand two things separately, similarly, two consciousnesses cannot understand one thing separately. If things have abiding, then it will become the object of multiple successively arising consciousnesses. Any thing

If an object cognized by one consciousness is cognized by another consciousness that arises later, then the object previously seen exists until it is cut off by the later consciousness, so it would be understood that existence exists. But this is not possible, because both consciousness and the knowable are momentary. What is grasped by one cannot be grasped by another, therefore there is no existence. Here, the eye and so on are the six faculties, and form and so on, as they are in their own nature, are also the six objects. Due to the power of the faculties and objects, six aggregates of consciousness also arise. Therefore, here, all that is called consciousness is dependently originated and momentarily destroyed, which is well-known to their own school. Therefore, their own school believes that there is no existence in the time of grasping the object that arises in the second moment, and one consciousness cannot completely cut off two objects. The eye consciousness arises simultaneously with the object, and after completely cutting it off, it ceases. Since it has ceased, it cannot cognize other objects, which they acknowledge. Just as eye consciousness is dependently originated and immediately destroyed, so it is momentary. Similarly, its object seems to exist when its consciousness completely cuts off the second object, because it is momentary, so it will not be grasped by two other consciousnesses. Although it ceases together with consciousness, because a similar continuum follows, it seems to those who are not proficient in the nature of things that it is the same as another consciousness. Therefore, there is no existence. This method should also be applied to the meaning of consciousnesses that have other meanings, so that similar formations, for the cause of formations, the moments of formations that arise earlier and later, are understood to be the same, which would cause harm. If it is said that in the Abhidharma, isn't it said that each of the five objects, such as form, must be known by two consciousnesses? How is this not contradictory? Does the Abhidharma not acknowledge momentariness?
