So. The term "past" refers to something that has already passed away. If something has passed away from a certain state and transcended it, how can it still be called "past"? Just as we cannot call yogurt, which has been transformed from milk, "milk," nor can we call someone who has passed childhood and entered adolescence a "child." Therefore, we cannot say that "passing away from the past" is "past." If someone thinks that "past" is merely the state of not having passed away from the "past," then even so, what does not pass away from the "past," that is, what does not disappear from the "past" and is not emptied by the action of the "past," why can it be called "past"? Because it is impossible to pass away from it. Therefore, in this case, what has not passed away from the "past" cannot be called "past" either. If someone thinks that the "past" exists in its own nature of the "past," so it is also not passed away from the "past," so only what has not passed away from the "past" can be called "past," then I will refute: If the establishment of the "past" exists, then this may be established. However, when we analyze the establishment of the "past," it does not exist. If, when thinking, we think of passing away or not passing away from the "past," in either case, its establishment is impossible. Since the very nature of the "past" has not been established, how can it exist in its own self-nature and be considered "the past that has not passed away from the past"? Therefore, past time does not exist by its own nature. Even if the "past" does not exist, and there is no "non-past" that does not depend on it, then the "past" is also impossible. Therefore, the three times, past, present, and future, do not exist by their own nature. Those particularists, because they assert that all times are real, and praise the view of the Sarvastivadins, to this, we need to argue and examine again: Those who think that future things are real, do they think that future things have already arisen or have not yet arisen? To this, we must first ask: If the future has already arisen, then why has it not become the present? If someone thinks that future things have already arisen, so they exist, then because it has already arisen, it exists, and it will become the present, not the future. If someone thinks that it has not yet arisen, but thinks that it exists, then even so, if it has not arisen, will the future not become permanent? Those things that have not yet arisen
