If non-self exists, and attachment is abandoned, then liberation will be achieved from abandoning attachment. If there were a self, then fearing that attachment would arise in the state of liberation, one would not admit that there is a self in the state of liberation. Indeed. If liberation itself exists, then it is not something that did not exist before. What is seen in something that does not possess it? That is said to be its own nature. Isn't it? That which does not possess related dharmas, and is simply established as its own essence, if one can identify a portion of that thing, then it is designated as its own nature, because it is not mixed with other dharmas. For example, for inexhaustible gold, when the related iron is completely exhausted, the pure state that appears is considered its own nature. Similarly, if one thinks that whatever special essence of consciousness appears in the pure state of the liberated self-consciousness, that is also its own nature, then even a slight appearance is not possible, because that would lead to attachment. Therefore, even in the state before falling into error, it should be considered that that is its own nature. In the previous state, it is not possible to accept as valid cognition a mind that has been defiled by inverted impurities and does not realize the true nature of things as they are. Therefore, even if seeing this thing is grasped by an inverted object, it cannot be admitted as such. For those with cataracts, it would be absurd to admit that they also see hairs, flies, and other things that do not actually exist. Therefore, one should abide in the view that the self does not exist by its own nature. Here someone says: If there is no self, then since conditioned things that perish moment by moment perish immediately after arising, there will be a view of annihilation. Since there is a non-momentary self as the basis of momentary things, there is no view of annihilation because it is not completely denied. It should be answered: If impermanence were annihilation, then why would there still be grass and other things? If this were true, then no one would have ignorance, this world.

Because the meaning of impermanence is severed, there is no such thought. For example, from the very first kalpa, grass and bamboo, and trees, etc., the order of the relationship between cause and effect entering has not been severed, and it should still occur now. Furthermore, if impermanence were to cease, then at that time, continuity would become an entry with the characteristic of not entering. Therefore, these things like grass, etc., will still appear. From appearance, it can be understood that impermanence has not ceased. This should be undoubtedly acknowledged as such. If it is not so, if this view that impermanence has ceased has meaning, then at that time, no sentient being would ever arise with delusion. Moreover, through the word "also," happiness, etc., and desire, etc., would also not change. Here, delusion is also impermanent, and impermanence is also cessation, so because it is definitely cessation, it will not be influenced by ignorance. Therefore, it would become that without the effort of reversing samsara, it could be accomplished, and if the ignorance of all the worlds were abandoned, then at any time it would not become not seeing Suchness, and this is not so, so impermanence has not ceased. If it is thought that the cause of the arising of all things is the permanent self, because the cause is certain, there will be no view that grass, etc., will cease. That is also impossible, because things are permanent, and there is nothing that does not depend on cause and condition to change, as has been explained before. Just like the horn of a non-existent donkey, it is not reasonable to be the cause of entering, so it is impossible to have the entering of beings with it as the cause. Or, even if the self is admitted to exist, it is not reasonable to be the cause of entering. For example, even if the self exists, Form, also appears to arise from elsewhere, also appears to exist elsewhere, also appears to perish from elsewhere. If things become the cause of the self, then they will not become arising from other things other than the self, just as fire arises from the meeting of jewels and firewood and the sun, and when meeting the moon, the jewel becomes water.
