You should not be attached to those times that take away life. You should act cautiously as if you fully understand the enemy who exists as a friend, and you should be skilled in fully understanding it, just like an old slave is connected to suffering. Just as when moments and other times pass, due to the inability to do anything and the sin of contempt from masters and others, an old slave constantly suffers, even so, she is only attached to those times and does not grieve for them. Similarly, the world is also attached to moments and other times, and when it is harmed by hail in the hot season, it desires the arrival of winter. Similarly, from the perspective of others, it is also other, and there is no happiness in it from anywhere. Therefore, in this way, one should think about how these natures of conditioned phenomena appear to exist, and one should live in harmony with them because of being weary of them. How should that be? It is that one should completely abandon all of this, and from home to homelessness, one should renounce and live. If this is true in reason, but in reality it cannot be done. It is difficult to separate from relatives and friends, so how can one do it? Therefore, if because of the fear caused by that (separation), I should not leave in order to enter the forest, then it should be said: With the fear of separation from foolishness, if one certainly does not come out of the house, then which wise person will certainly do it because of the necessity to do it? Foolish you think that it is difficult to separate from relatives and friends, and if because of the fear of that (separation) one does not come out of the house, then one will be devoured by the Lord of Death at any time, therefore it must be done. Like this, in order not to be devoured, it is necessary to leave, and in order to practice asceticism, before one does it oneself, which wise person will do it through some punishment of the Lord of Death? Therefore, one should take measures in advance and become a state of mind that completely abandons oneself and what belongs to oneself. Just like oppressing the people and collecting taxes. For example, the villagers, after experiencing great suffering, will offer everything in order to surely become poor later, otherwise it will not be like that. Similarly, the unwise person...

Relatives and family members, etc., are bound to be abandoned, the lord of death will make them abandon, one cannot but abandon them. Here it is said: If the main thing is to abandon without regret, even so, one should have children, and when they grow up and get married, entrust the burden of the family to them, complete all the things that should be done, and then one must leave. It should be said like this: After you have done these things, you want to leave, thinking of going to the forest, no matter what you do, you have to abandon it, what is the use of doing these things? If I must go to the forest without regret, but there are still some things that have not been done, thinking of doing these things and then going. If you do these things, and for what you do them, even if both are done, if in the end you still have to abandon everything, then what is the use of doing them? Therefore, this is something that should not be done. Therefore, one should not waste time only caring about these things, one should be good at distinguishing what should be done and what should not be done, just like picking up a mango that has fallen into impurity and throwing it away, and a guest sharpening a stone. Some people pick up a mango that has fallen into impurity, and others ask him what he is picking it up for, and he says he will wash it clean and throw it away, just like that, if everything is to be abandoned, then what is the use of all the effort? Also, for example, some guests start to sharpen stones with the shoes on their feet. Others ask him what he is doing, and he says he is sharpening stones, and after the matter is over, that stone is not used to repair the shoes, but instead becomes the source of trouble because it is not in accordance with the Dharma, similarly, one should also understand the family affairs of the guests in samsara. Here it is said that if going to the forest is actually the most important thing, even so, if one has attachment to oneself and one's things, one will be afraid because of this. It should be said like this: Thinking that I will die, for what is bound to happen, that person, because he has completely abandoned attachment, how can he be afraid of the lord of death? Here, for those who have wisdom, following the teachings, thinking that I have the nature of death.
