It is unreasonable to think that I have self-nature. Moreover, it does not exist by its own nature. If I existed by my own nature, then just as it becomes the cause of clinging to one "I," it would also become the cause of clinging to all "I's." In the world, the nature of fire does not become hot for some things and not hot for others. Similarly, if I were to exist by my own nature, then it should become the "I" and the object of clinging for everyone, but this is not the case. For example: Your "I" is not my "I," therefore it is not necessarily "I." Your "I," the object of your clinging, and the object of your attachment, will not become my "I," because they are not the objects of our clinging, nor are they the objects of our attachment. Why is this so? Because it is not necessarily "I." Whatever is not necessarily my "I" is not self-existent, therefore this fabricated, meaningless "I" should be abandoned. If there is no self, then what will become of clinging to "I" and attachment to "I"? The answer is: For impermanent things, will there not be illusions? As stated earlier, since it is impossible to find an "I" that is different from the aggregates and established by its own nature in any way, one will mistakenly think that impermanent things, such as form, which are named and without self-nature, are "I," sentient beings, life, the born, born of power, the doer, the feeler, and so on. Just as it does not depend on firewood, it also depends on the aggregates to be falsely established as "I." Moreover, when the aggregates are definitely analyzed in five ways as "the same" or "different," since it does not exist by its own nature, it is something that is dependently imputed. Therefore, the conditioned aggregates will be mistakenly regarded as "I" in impermanent things. Here, "I" is only self-existent, because it is the cause of entering and leaving. If there is no self, then who will do good, bad, or unwavering deeds and then experience its results?
