The reason why beings cling to the self is that the results of good, non-good, and unspecified actions are profound, and each continuum is distinguished by various differentiations of conceptual thoughts. The external self is the nature of the aggregation of body and senses, which benefits the internal self. Regarding this, for the moment, whatever the internal self is, if it is thought to be female, then at that time, because it has the nature of not abandoning its own nature, even if it is reborn in another life, it does not rely on other signs, so it will always be female. But this is not the case, because confusion can be seen, and femaleness, etc., are not qualities of the self. Therefore, it is said: "With a mind of intense desire, The wisdom and actions of body, speech, and senses, Like a woman entering into sexual intercourse, The ignorant one will be transformed into a woman in the next life. With innate perfection and altruistic intention, In the body and hundredfold aspects of the Thus-Gone One, Having truly reproached the female self, In the next life, one will be transformed into the most excellent man." Similarly, it should be said for male and neuter as well. Therefore, it is said: "When the inner self is female, Not male, not neuter, not female, At that time, some ignorant ones think, 'You are male,' I think like this." The term "male" is an approximate representation, therefore I am female, I am neuter, all these arise from ignorance. When analyzed, this is not established for existing things, therefore, for such complete understanding, there is no other reason for not understanding other than ignorance, if one does not fully understand the nature of a rope, one will additionally cling to it as a snake, so it is thought. Therefore, the Bhagavan said: "For example, the thought of doubt generates poison, Even if the poison does not enter the stomach, it causes fainting, Likewise, children cling to self and what belongs to self, The thought of self is not truly constant, it arises and ceases." If it is thought that male, female, and neuter are the permanent nature of the external self, and because of being associated with this, the internal self is also permanent, then this is not the case. Why? Because here, the great elements themselves in space do not...

Because of reason, the great elements are only four. Furthermore, according to which view are the great elements five? That is also because it is unreasonable to start from space, so the great elements are only four, becoming the substantial cause. For them, men, women, and hermaphrodites do not exist by their own nature. If they did exist, then at that time, because they follow by their own nature, all bodies would become definite signs, and things like softness would also become obvious signs, but this is not the case. Therefore, when in all the great elements, there are no men, women, and hermaphrodites, then how can it be said that they depend on men, women, and hermaphrodites? What reason is there for women, etc., to arise in bodies depending on those great elements that are separated from signs by their own nature? Therefore, in that way, for the external self, women, men, and hermaphrodites are also unreasonable, so your thought that "I am a man," "I am a woman," "I am a hermaphrodite" is merely due to ignorance. Those who imagine beds and trees, etc., to be women, etc., for no reason, imagining breasts, etc., and much hair, etc., for those people, it is merely a reversed imagination, which cannot be stopped, and the same fault will apply to you. But this is not the case, because according to my view, things are without self-nature because of dependent origination. For things without self-nature, like the images of paintings, walls, illusion wheels, and illusory women, etc., it is also reasonable to change according to the conditions, so there is no fault. The Blessed One said, "Do not use 'steadfast is a woman,' and do not discriminate against men, because all dharmas have no birth, and searching will not be seen." According to the view of those who assert that they have self-nature, because it is impossible for self-nature to change, it will necessarily fall into the state of being permanent as self-nature is. Therefore, the discriminations such as thinking "I am a man" arise only from ignorance, so it is
