Since it is not possible to show it immediately, therefore, those who are skilled in accomplishing the benefit of sentient beings should be skilled in means. Initially, for the water in the water, it should be said that everything exists. After understanding the phenomena and arousing attachment, emptiness is below it. If those who have not been enlightened are placed in the state of initially only contemplating emptiness, they will become extremely confused. Therefore, the noble ones do not initially only show emptiness, in order to truly declare the wishes of those who are attached to things and who like to distinguish the nature of things in detail, in order to cherish themselves, in order to seek the true suchness, initially it should be said that everything exists. Its thing is that. In order to express the meaning that one wants to express, one should associate "its" with universal things. A thing is its own nature, whatever the nature of anything is, that is its thing, that is the true suchness. Self-nature. The nature itself. Suchness. Non-otherness, these are synonyms. Because it has the nature of seeking true suchness, therefore it is a seeker of true suchness. If one wants to seek true suchness, and the lama wants to benefit him, what should be said? It should be said that everything exists. Everything that the Brahmin says refers to the five aggregates, the twelve sources, and the eighteen realms, etc. Combining it with knowledge, it should be said that the aggregates, etc., this and that exist. One should also hold the aggregates, etc., hold the existence of this and that, and show its changes like long and short or like a flame, it is not different from this, therefore it is only holding or relying. What is meant by understanding the meaning? Because the fruits are infinite, and because each fruit has many causes and conditions, and if one examines each cause and condition, like beginningless samsara, because one cannot see the end of the transmission from one collection of causes to another, therefore, observing the production of the fruit is destructive, the fruit accomplished by one collection of causes, produced by many causes and conditions, as soon as it is produced, one recognizes that it is destructive, and one recognizes that obtaining life is something that requires a lot of effort to accomplish, and

Having realized that things achieved through effort also perish without effort, one becomes discouraged with the nature of conditioned phenomena. One does not openly praise the behavior of childish common people, does not openly rejoice in birth, and considers destruction inappropriate. One desires to abandon attachment to samsara, desires to renounce samsara, and because attachment to self has loosened, it is reasonable to go into solitude after having understood the meaning in this way, not before. If this is done, the teacher's mere pointing out will not become fruitless. The disciples will also not fall into wrong views due to abandonment and inverted clinging. If this is not done, because the two truths, conventional and ultimate, exist separately and are incompatible, merely pointing out emptiness will lead to falling into wrong views. If that happens, one will not be able to abandon non-virtue. Those without wisdom will think, "This samsara is empty," and thinking, "Since it is empty, what is there to do?" they will not be enthusiastic about virtuous actions that must be diligently performed. Therefore, these people will also be destroyed like a bird with undeveloped wings flying from its nest. Like this, because of lacking individual realization, they do not understand the meaning of complete solitude, merely cling to hearing, and those who do not accumulate merit, those inferior people will be destroyed. Abiding in the ultimate truth of the worldly, without inversion, completely purified, possessing perfect aspects, and when one individually realizes the suchness of emptiness, it is reasonable not to do merit and non-merit. Those who do not individually realize emptiness, but merely imitate the actions of those who act as if they have, just by hearing the sound of emptiness, are actually entering into non-virtuous actions, not virtuous ones. These people will undoubtedly end up in affliction, like a chick with undeveloped wings imitating a bird with fully developed wings. Merely hearing the sound of water does not quench thirst, and merely hearing the sound of food does not relieve hunger. If these are pointed out, just as thirst is quenched and hunger is relieved, having realized this, those inferior people will be destroyed, it is said. Completely entering into non-virtue, therefore those people.
