The reason for this is that they believe that these things are not produced essentially, so they have no beginning or end, and cannot be fully investigated. As it is said, "Whatever arises dependently, that has no before or after." Therefore, this must be accepted without a doubt. Otherwise, not only will samsara become having a beginning, but also because things that are produced essentially cannot change, it will be proven to be eternal. As it is said, "How can what was born before, be completely transformed later?" This is to say that what does not change in essence is eternal. If it is admitted that things arise from non-self-nature, then, if there is an author, it will inevitably be completely held as a view. Things arise from nothing, which means they arise only from causeless conditions. Therefore, the view of causelessness also exists in the same way, and if this is also related, then it will also become the fault of nihilistic view. When does one doubt this "Whatever arises dependently, that has no before or after"? Because they are not produced essentially. Thus, because this arises dependently, it is not produced essentially. Therefore, without a doubt, abandoning the limits of before and after, beings appear like illusions. Just as a magician, through the application of spells to perform magic, conjures elephants, horses, and people, etc., if these are not produced essentially, then they will appear as elephants, etc. For these, just like real elephants, etc., the idea of before and after does not arise. Similarly, those who think there are real elephants, etc., should not investigate the limits of before and after, because they arise dependently. If so, then, abandoning the limits of before and after, beings appear like illusions. Because they arise and disappear without staying for even a moment, they are called beings. Because it has the nature of deception, it is an illusion. For those who are confused about its essence, it appears wrongly, so it is deception. To show its deceptiveness, as it is said, "When does the illusion arise? When will the illusion be destroyed? Those who know the illusion are not confused, those who do not know the illusion are extremely thirsty." Just like the magician, through the conditions of spells, conjures

Like young women skilled in various illusions, whose forms and behaviors are extremely beautiful, whose manners are exquisite, who are adept at seductive arts, and who are captivating, those who are not skilled in their essence but are attached to desires will become objects of extreme delight, like receiving a small but genuine reward. However, just as those who are not skilled in illusion perceive it, illusion itself has no inherent nature. But the illusionist who is skilled in illusion, because he understands that illusion is not truly existent but merely an appearance, does not generate a mind of bewilderment. Similarly, here too, the skilled yogis who are like illusionists, if they see with their wisdom that all phenomena of existence are like illusions and mirages, will not be deluded by views of the past or future. Yogis, with correct wisdom, through their own individual wisdom, see all conditioned phenomena as like illusions and mirages. Because nothing can be fixated upon in ultimate reality, they are not deluded by the past or future regarding the nature of things, and their wisdom does not become inverted. Therefore, all the noble beings who have passed away and will pass away have abandoned this path of no self-nature, just like those who are not skilled with illusory women. Those who discriminate birth and death in conditioned things, do not understand the way of the wheel of dependent arising at all. If someone says: 'Self-nature is born, self-nature ceases.' Then, those who discriminate the birth and death of conditioned things in the way of self-nature being born and ceasing, do not understand at all the way the wheel of dependent arising operates, like a wheel of fire, without beginning, middle, and end. Because conditioned things do not exist in themselves, birth and death are impossible. Therefore, those who fixate on birth and death cannot comprehend the wheel of dependent arising. If one accepts self-nature as being born, why is the meaning of dependent arising not understood? Because what arises in dependence on this and that is not self-nature. If it is not self-nature, how can it be said to be born?
