The sound "aṅ" signifies aggregation. Just the shape alone is not reasonable as a chariot, nor is just the collection reasonable, in order to understand this. From what is this known? Because if there is no possessor of parts, there are no parts. Therefore, just a shape is not reasonable as a chariot. They themselves have admitted that there is no possessor of parts. Furthermore, if you assert that just a shape is a chariot, then is that shape of the parts or of the collection? In that case, if you assert that it is a distinction of the shape of the parts, then is it of those that have not abandoned the previous distinction of shape, or of those that have abandoned the previous distinction of shape? In that case, if you assert the former, then it is not reasonable. Why? You (think) the shape is each part that existed before. Just as it exists belonging to the chariot, so too. How is it for those that have become separate? Even now, there is no chariot. If, before the state of the chariot, how the distinctions of shape of the spokes and so forth existed, just as they were, if the distinctions of shape of the spokes and so forth are the same at the time of the chariot itself, then at that time, just as there is no chariot when the parts have become separate, it must be determined that there is no chariot even at the time of the chariot itself, because the shapes of its parts are not different. If the second alternative, that is, another shape itself becomes what is called a chariot, then even so, now if the chariot itself at this time, the spokes and so forth have different shapes, if this can be apprehended, then that also does not exist, therefore just the shape is not a chariot. If the distinctions of shape of the parts of the chariot, such as the wheel, axle, and rivets, such as the flatness, length, and roundness, whatever existed before, from those distinctions of shape, another distinction of shape alone arises at the time of the chariot itself, if that can be apprehended, then apprehension also does not exist. For example, in the case of a wheel with the shape of the distinctions of spokes, rims, and hubs, one does not see its own shape transformed into another in the state of the chariot. Similarly, the flatness and so forth of the axle and so forth also do not become other.
