A Commentary on Entering the Middle Way, by Chandrakirti. A Commentary on Entering the Middle Way. By Chandrakirti. In Sanskrit: Mādhyamaka-avatāra-bhāṣya-nāma. In Tibetan: Named "A Commentary on Entering the Middle Way." Homage to the noble Mañjuśrīkumārabhūta! In order to enter the treatises of the Middle Way, intending to compose Entering the Middle Way, therefore, the perfectly complete Buddhas and Bodhisattvas also, at the beginning, the Blessed One, the Great Compassionate Buddha himself, the first of the complete causes, in order to show that one should praise the nature of completely saving all sentient beings bound in the prison of samsara, without refuge, without protection, immeasurable. Śrāvakas, middling Buddhas, are born from the Mighty Sage. Buddhas and Bodhisattvas are born from that. The mind of compassion and non-dual wisdom, the mind of enlightenment is the cause of the sons of the Conqueror. Thus, etc., two verses are mentioned. Among them, because they possess the unsurpassed, excellent power of Dharma, therefore, Śrāvakas, Pratyekabuddhas, and Bodhisattvas are also the supreme lords, and because Śrāvakas, etc., are ruled by their command, the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, are called Mighty Sages. The arising of Śrāvakas, etc., from them is created from them. How is it created? Because when the Buddhas appear, it is in order to enter into teaching the correct dependent origination, and through the order of hearing, thinking, and meditating, the Śrāvakas, etc., will be completely perfected as desired. If some people only hear the closely taken dependent origination, even if they are skilled in realizing the ultimate truth, they will not attain Nirvana in this visible life, but even so, those practitioners who proclaim the closely taken dependent origination will surely obtain the maturation of the fruit that is desired to appear in another life, like the definite result of karma.

It is so, it is said. For that very reason, it is also said in the Madhyamaka: When the perfect Buddhas have not appeared, and the Shravakas have also been exhausted, the wisdom of the Pratyekabuddha arises without dependence. It is said. Among them, because they can obtain the fruit of the true secret, they are Shravakas. Thus, they have done what needs to be done, and they will not know other worldly affairs from this, and so on. Or, because they hear the supreme fruit or the unsurpassed perfect complete Buddha's path from the Tathagatas and proclaim it to those who strive for it, they are Shravakas. As it is said in the Lotus Sutra of the Good Law: Lord, today we have become Shravakas, we will truly proclaim the supreme Bodhi, and we will also greatly proclaim the sound of Bodhi, therefore we Shravakas seem endless. It is like what was said. Bodhisattvas are also like that, but even so, they only proclaim, and those who do not even practice conformity are Shravakas, so it will not be a fault for Bodhisattvas. The sound of Buddha refers to the reality of Buddha, which can refer to Shravakas, Pratyekabuddhas, and the unsurpassed perfect complete Buddhas. Therefore, the sound of Buddha refers to Pratyekabuddhas. They are superior to Shravakas because of the difference in the increase of merit and wisdom, and they are inferior to the perfect complete Buddhas because they do not have the accumulation of merit and wisdom, great compassion, omniscient knowledge, and so on, so they are intermediate. For that very reason, they arise wisdom without being pointed out, and because they are alone, they themselves attain Buddhahood, so they are Pratyekabuddhas. In the manner described above, Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas are born from the teachings of the Tathagatas, so they are born from the King of Sages. Again, where are those lords of the Sage born from? It is said: They are born from Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. If Bodhisattvas are also born from the instructions of the Tathagatas, wouldn't they be called the descendants of the king? Therefore...
