Why is that? If it is shape, it is because it exists in tangible things. How can you turn these themselves into "I"? Aggregates such as mind are not the nature of "I", why is that? Because they have no shape, because they are not tangible things. This is what is thought. Furthermore, the taker and the taken are not the same kind of thing. Why is that? If so, the agent and the action would become the same. Here, because of taking, it is the taker, that is, the agent; being taken, it is the taken, that is, the action. Here, the taker is "I", and the taken are the five aggregates. If the aggregates such as form are merely "I", then the agent and the action would become the same, which is not desirable. The forms produced by earth, water, fire, and wind, as well as the pot and the potter, would also become the same. As it is said: "If firewood is fire, the agent and the action become the same." And "Fire and wood, in the order of 'I' and the taken, together with pots, felt, etc., are completely explained." It is said. Here, just as it is not desired that fire and firewood are the same, it should also not be desired that "I" and the taken are the same. If something becomes the agent, and the taken does not exist at all, thinking that it is merely a collection of the taken, this is also unreasonable. If it is thought that results can be produced without an agent, that is not correct, because without an agent there is no result. It is also said in the scriptures: "Similarly, the taken should be understood, in order to distinguish between action and agent. Through the agent and action, the remaining things should be understood." It is said. Here, the suffix Lāṭa is added to the object, because it is taken, it is called the taker. And the object does not arise without the factor that realizes it, therefore, its own realization factor, that is, the taken and the taker, are related to each other. The combination of the taken, Kṛta and Lāṭa, is usually said in this way, therefore, the suffix Lāṭa is added to the action, becoming the taken.

It is also spoken of from the action. Therefore, just as one should rely on the agent to designate the action, and just as one becomes the agent by relying on the action, one should also rely on the near-taking to designate the near-taker, and the near-taker also relies on the near-taking. Moreover, answering in this way, it is not other, nor is it the near-taking itself, I am not without near-taking, nor is it determined to be without. Thus it is said. Therefore, one should know that just as there is no agent, there is also no action. Moreover, from where it is said that the agent is not observed, but the action exists and the maturation also exists, from that one should know that the self-nature establishment of the agent is prohibited, but the reliance and designation, which has become a branch of convention, is also prohibited, that is not what should be known. It is also said thus: "This person who is associated with ignorance also manifestly accumulates merit and manifestly accumulates," and so on, extensively. Furthermore, why did the Thubpa say that the self is earth, water, fire, wind, consciousness, and space, called the six elements, and the six bases of contact such as the eye, relying on them, and holding the mind and mental phenomena, he said that it is not them, but only an accumulation, therefore the wisdom of self-grasping is not in them. In the Sutra it is said: "Great King, the person is the six elements, the six sources of contact, and the eighteen mental activities." Among them, the six elements are earth, water, fire, wind, consciousness, and space, and relying on them, it is nominally designated as self. The six bases of contact such as the eye are from the gathering of the eye to the source of contact, up to the gathering of the mind to the source of contact, and relying on them, it is nominally designated as self. The eighteen mental activities are the six mental pleasures that focus on form, sound, smell, taste, touch, and dharma, and likewise the mental displeasures, and likewise the mental equanimity, relying on them, and holding the mind and mental phenomena, it is nominally designated as self. Because of what
