Those who say that Isvara etc. are the cause, just as "earth" is the cause of the sound of "earth" etc., crystal is the appearance of water etc., branches are like twigs etc., so Isvara is the cause of all sentient beings. Likewise, those who speak of the Alaya-vijñana also say that the Alaya-vijñana is the support of the seeds of all things, and is all the seeds. That Isvara is permanent, while the Alaya-vijñana is impermanent, this is the difference. Because the establishment of the scriptures is said to be like this. Therefore, the nature of other-dependence, is the cause of things that can be examined, and arises without an external object to be grasped, existence and all elaborations are not objects, but are inherently existent. This nature of other-dependence must be admitted, because it is considered the basis of all networks of conceptualization. The reason for the illusion of a snake is the rope, it is unreasonable not to depend on the rope; the reason for the illusion of a pot is earth etc., it is impossible to arise in the sky without depending on earth etc. Likewise, if there is no external object here, then what reason would there be for the conceptualization of blue etc.? Therefore, it must be admitted that the cause of conceptualization is the nature of other-dependence, because it is the cause of affliction and purification. Thus, because what is not in something is rightly seen as empty of it; and what remains here is truly present here. To understand this as it is, is to enter into emptiness without perversion. Therefore, emptiness will also be well understood. It is also the nature of not being the object of all elaborations, because expression is grasping the aspect of imputation, as long as there is expression, the thing is not expressed. Therefore, in short, here, the nature of other-dependence will be established as three: arising only from one's own habitual tendencies without an object of knowledge, and existence itself and elaborations.

. It is not the only object. Because the cause of the existing object is established by existence itself, it is no different from the three. This should be explained: Where is the mind without an external object? This should be examined truthfully. Answer: Like a dream. If you sleep in a very small room, and turn over in your sleep, dreaming of a herd of mad elephants in the room, this does not exist in any way. Therefore, even if there is no external object, this consciousness should be admitted without hesitation. To show that this is also meaningless, it is said: Think about it. Again, what is that? Answer: When I have no mind even in a dream, then your example does not exist. Because the consciousness of the image of a herd of mad elephants does not exist for us like an object, because it is unborn. Even if there is no consciousness, there is no example established by sleep, so without an external object, consciousness does not exist. If there is no confused consciousness in the dream, then when you wake up, you will not remember the experience in the dream. If you think so, this is also not possible. As it is said: If when you wake up, there is mind from remembering the dream, then the external object will also exist in the same way. Why? Just as you remember thinking I saw it, the external object also exists in this way. Just as there is mind from remembering the experience of the dream, remembering the experience of the object also exists, so the object also exists, or consciousness also does not exist, it should be determined in this way. Here it is said: If elephants and other forms exist in the dream, then in order to grasp it, eye consciousness should also exist. But that also does not exist, because disturbed by sleep, the collection of the five consciousnesses is impossible. As it is said: If eye consciousness does not exist in sleep, so it does not exist, only mind consciousness exists. If its image is an external object, then, if you think of it as a dream, that is, eye consciousness does not exist in any case in the dream, because without it, elephants and other forms will not be grasped by the eye sense.

The 牙瓦 does not exist, but the consciousness of mind does exist. Therefore, the external form is only emptiness, and the attachment to the appearance of consciousness as the external is unavoidable. If it is said, just as in a dream only consciousness arises without an external object, will it also change here? It is not so, because it is impossible for the consciousness of mind to arise in a dream. As it is said: Just as your external object in a dream, has not arisen, so also the mind has not arisen. Therefore, the eye and the object of the eye and the mind generated by it, all three are false. Just as seeing form is the eye, form, and mind, these three are close together. In a dream also, when the object is completely known, it is perceived that the three are assembled. Just as there the eye and form do not exist, so also the eye consciousness does not exist. Just as these three are, so also the remaining three, ear, etc., do not arise. The word "ear, etc." includes from sound and ear consciousness to mind and the realm of phenomena and consciousness. Therefore, all three of these are false in a dream, therefore it is unreasonable to say that there is consciousness in a dream. If it is thought that the form belonging to the realm of phenomena, which is to be grasped by the consciousness of mind, exists in a dream, therefore consciousness does not exist anywhere without an object, that is also unreasonable, because in a dream all three are impossible in every way. If it is admitted in order to clarify other tenets, then the example of the dream becomes meaningless, because it is impossible to show that the meaning of the real thing arising from the example is the meaning of falsehood by the fact that it is not the meaning of falsehood. Because all three are not true in a dream, therefore, in order to establish the unestablished by means of complete establishment, it will also be established that all dharmas are without self-nature when awake, it is said: How is the dream, so also here when awake, things are false, the mind does not exist.
