That which is closely indicated by the fruit of that wisdom's cause is called the first. Among them, the ten great aspirations and the hundred thousand aspirations, all those established by Bodhisattvas when they first generate the mind of enlightenment, are included within the aspirations of the Bodhisattva Samantabhadra. In order to gather all aspirations, the aspirations of Samantabhadra are specially established. Just as in the Hearer's Vehicle, there is a distinction between entering and abiding on the path of fruition, and the eight of the Hearers are easily established, so too in the Great Vehicle, there are the ten Bodhisattva grounds of the Bodhisattvas. Furthermore, just as the state corresponding to the Hearer's decisive separation is not permitted to be the state of entering the first fruit, so too is the Bodhisattva who will come to be. As it is said in the Sutra of the Jewel Cloud: "This, the first ground of the Dharma-nature practiced by great faith and even greater faith, is immediately attained and abides, is the ground of the Bodhisattva before generating the mind of enlightenment." It is also said that abiding in that moment of faith-practice: "Son of good family, just as a wheel-turning king has transcended human color but has not attained divine color, so too, a Bodhisattva has utterly transcended all worldly beings, Hearers, and Solitary Buddhas, and has attained the ground of the ultimate Bodhisattva." Thus it is distinguished in that very sutra. Furthermore, when one enters this first ground called "The Utterly Joyful," from that time onward, because of having attained it, one is designated only by the name "Bodhisattva." Attaining that mind is a state that transcends all ordinary beings, and it can only be spoken of with the name "Bodhisattva," and not with any other name, because at that time, that one is a noble being. As it is said in the Bhagavati-mata Two Thousand Five Hundred Verses: "'Bodhisattva' is the supreme name for a sentient being who follows realization, meaning one who follows and knows all dharmas. How does one know? One knows the unarisen, and also

Unpurified and inverted, and how those are not as measured by childish ordinary people, and how they are not as obtained by childish ordinary people. Therefore, it is called a Bodhisattva. What is the reason for that? Bodhi is non-conceptual. Bodhi is unaccomplished. Bodhi is without an object of focus. Subduing with the supreme power. The Tathagata has not attained Bodhi, because all dharmas have not been obtained. Because all dharmas are without an object of focus, it is called Bodhi, and that is the Bodhi of the Buddha, but such speech is not so. Subduing with the supreme power. Those who generate the mind for Bodhi, and this mind should be generated for Bodhi. Where should we generate the mind, that Bodhi exists, those who arrogantly think of Bodhi in this way should not be called Bodhisattvas. They should be called those who generate arrogance. What is the reason for that? It is said that it appears in arising, it appears in the mind, it appears in Bodhi, and so on. Moreover, Bodhi is without characteristics, it is separated from the nature of characteristics. Whoever understands in this way, that is Bodhi, but such speech is also not so. Subduing with the supreme power, it is called a Bodhisattva because of realizing those dharmas. Subduing with the supreme power, whoever does not know this dharma and does not follow and realize it, but thinks of himself as a Bodhisattva, that person is far from the Bodhisattva ground, and that person is far from the dharmas of the Bodhisattva. Likewise, that person is deceiving the world of gods, humans, and asuras with the name of a Bodhisattva. Subduing with the supreme power, if one becomes a Bodhisattva merely by this word, then all sentient beings should also become Bodhisattvas. Subduing with the supreme power, this is not just any action, such as, the Bodhisattva ground, etc., as it is said. Having obtained the mind of Bodhi as described

At that time, not only is it called by the name of Bodhisattva alone, but also, this is born in the lineage of the Tathagatas, and all three kinds of pervasive attachments of this are eliminated. That Bodhisattva is the holder of supreme joy, and is also able to shake hundreds of thousands of worlds universally. Because he has transcended all of the ordinary person, the Hearer, and the Solitary Buddha, and because the path of following the light of all the Tathagata grounds has arisen, therefore the Bodhisattva is born in the lineage of the Tathagatas. At that time, because he directly sees the selflessness of the person, this is also separated from the three pervasive attachments called viewing the aggregates as self, doubt, and holding precepts and asceticism as supreme, because he will not be reborn again. If the Suchness is not seen, then by falsely clinging to self, it will turn into viewing the aggregates as self, and similarly, due to doubt, if there is another path that can be taken, then it is not other. One who has entered into certainty, because he has obtained the qualities of that cause, and is free from the faults of the unfavorable aspects of the ground, and the difference of incomparable joy arises, because the supreme joy increases, that Bodhisattva is also the holder of supreme joy. Because there is supreme joy that is particularly excellent, this ground will also obtain the name called Supreme Joy. It is also able to shake hundreds of thousands of worlds. From ground to ground, it suppresses and increases upwards. At that time, all the paths of evil destinies of this are stopped. At that time, all the grounds of the ordinary person of this are exhausted. This is shown to be as close as the eighth ground of the noble ones. It is called this because it is familiar with the Dharma that has been understood, and because it has great migration for suppressing the second ground and so on, when suppressing from ground to ground, it will increase upwards. In short, like the noble
