If that were the case, it would also be unacceptable. Therefore, one should not assert that the self-nature of all things arises at all times. As it is said in the Noble Jewel Heap Sutra: "Light Protector, furthermore, to truly and individually analyze the Dharma of the Middle Way, it is not that emptiness makes the Dharma empty, but the Dharma itself is empty; it is not that signlessness makes the Dharma signless, but the Dharma itself is signless; it is not that wishlessness makes the Dharma wishless, but the Dharma itself is wishless; it is not that non-fabrication makes the Dharma non-fabricated, but the Dharma itself is non-fabricated; it is not that unbornness makes the Dharma born, but the Dharma itself is unborn; it is not that non-arising makes the Dharma non-arising, but the Dharma itself is non-arising," and so on, extensively explained. If someone asserts the nature of other-dependence and thinks that the emptiness that depends on it, characterized by non-grasping and non-rejection, as well as impermanence and so on, is neither this nor that, then according to his view, it would become that only emptiness makes all dharmas empty, but not self-nature itself. In the Four Hundred Verses, it says: 'Not empty, not possessing emptiness, one does not see liberation; with wrong views, one does not transcend sorrow, as the Tathagatas have said.' The scriptures also say: 'Among all views, the Victorious Ones say that the view of emptiness is certainly what transcends; those who have this view of emptiness, they are said to be incurable.' Here it is said: Although there is no arising in the ultimate sense, therefore arising from self and other depends on self, but the nature of forms and feelings and so on, those that are perceived by direct perception and inference, will undoubtedly arise from other. If one does not think so, then why speak of two truths? It will only become one truth. Therefore, there is no arising from other. This should be explained: Although this is true, in the ultimate sense there are not two truths, monks, this supreme truth is only one, namely,

are deceptive dharmas, are nirvana. Because it is said that all conditioned things are false, are deceptive dharmas. Therefore, whatever is the conventional truth is the means to enter the ultimate truth. Without examining whether it arises from self or others, it is accepted in the manner of the world. For example, if these things are analyzed, then it cannot find a place outside of the thing that is the self, therefore one should not analyze the conventional truth of the world. For example, these forms and feelings, etc., do they arise from self, or do they arise from others? If one analyzes in this way, since there is no arising or ceasing in the ultimate sense, therefore it cannot abide in the part that has arising, etc., from the part that has changed into other than the self-nature. Therefore, one should not engage in analysis such as arising from self and others, but should accept it in the way that the world universally sees, "If this exists, then that arises," only through the entrance of relying on others. As the noble one said, "Just as barbarians cannot understand other languages, so too, without understanding the world, one cannot understand the world." It is also said in the scriptures, "Without relying on names, one cannot realize the ultimate meaning. Without realizing the ultimate meaning, one cannot attain nirvana." If one analyzes, the conventional terms of the world will disappear. As it is said in the sutras, "For example, relying on wood and strings, plus the effort of the hands, when the three are gathered, from plucking the lute, flute, and other instruments, sounds will arise. Then, some wise people investigate, from where does it come, and where does it go? Investigating in all directions and corners, one cannot find the coming or going of the sound. Similarly, all conditioned things that arise from causes and conditions are produced. The yogi who sees reality sees that conditioned things are empty and without movement. The aggregates, sense bases, and elements are empty inside and empty outside. Sentient beings with self
