As it is said in the Madhyamakāvatāra, "When a long time has passed, that wisdom will also become even more excellent," since it has already been proclaimed, one should not strive to refute it again. For that very reason, the Blessed One said, "Rābhya, those who wish to attain the enlightenment of a Śrāvaka should also train in this Prajñāpāramitā. Rābhya, those who wish to attain the enlightenment of a Pratyekabuddha should also train in this Prajñāpāramitā. Rābhya, those who wish to attain the enlightenment of unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment should also train in this Prajñāpāramitā." He extensively proclaimed. Furthermore, "Whoever wishes to become a Sugata's Śrāvaka, and wishes to become a Pratyekabuddha and likewise a Dharma King, if they do not rely on this patience, they will not be able to attain it, just as one who wishes to go from this shore to the other shore does not see the shore of the road." Thus it is said. Here it is said: If, like that, because internal and external things are unattainable, therefore the thoughts of 'I' and 'mine' do not arise in the internal and external, if that is established, then that is Suchness. Then, how is it not contradictory to what the Blessed One said: "Oneself is one's own protector, who else can be a protector? By taming oneself well, the wise will attain heaven." And similarly, "Black and white actions will not perish, one will experience the results of one's own actions. Actions and their results will not be transferred, and they will not arise without cause and conditions." How is it not contradictory to what was extensively proclaimed? It should be said: Here there is no self or sentient being, these phenomena all have causes. And similarly, I am not form, I am not associated with form, there is no self in form, there is no form in me. Similarly, I am not consciousness, I am not associated with consciousness, there is no self in consciousness, there is no consciousness in me, up to here. And similarly, all phenomena are without self, why did the Blessed One not say that? Therefore, how can the previous scriptures not contradict this scripture? Therefore, here one should seek the intention taught by the Blessed One. The Blessed One, in general in the scriptures,

It has also been designated as "self," and it has also been taught as "no-self." The Buddhas have said that there is self and no-self, and they have also said that there is neither self nor no-self. The intention here is that here, some people are completely covered by the thick haze of wrong views, which obscures the eye of wisdom, so that they cannot see the true nature of things, and their views have not gone beyond the realm of the mundane. They merely abide in the truth of conventions, adhering to following only the nature of elements such as earth, water, fire, and wind. They believe that, just as wine, which is produced from the complete ripening of material factors such as roots, stems, leaves, water, and temperature, possesses the special effects of intoxication and fainting, so too, dull-witted people are merely produced from the complete ripening of the great elements. They begin to deny the existence of past and future lives, believing that this world does not exist, nor do the fruits of good and bad deeds, nor are there spontaneously born beings, etc., thereby denying the next life and the self. Because they deny these, they turn their backs on the path that can bring excellent results, the desirable realms of gods and liberation. They constantly and continuously engage in non-virtuous actions, thereby facing the danger of falling into great abysses such as hell. In order to correct these incorrect views of theirs, and to guide beings according to their capacities, dividing them into lower, middle, and upper levels, in order to liberate the sinful people of lower capacity from non-virtuous actions, the Tathagata Bhagavan, with eighty-four thousand different behaviors, followed the inclinations of different beings. He vowed to liberate all beings, diligently practiced, possessed skillful means, wisdom, and great compassion, was an incomparable friend to beings, able to heal all diseases of afflictions, and was the great king of physicians. In some cases, it has also been designated as "self," that is to say, it has been so established. And those who speak of causelessness.
