If there is no ripening, then karma will be regarded as annihilation. Because there is the nature of not being wasted, and because of the impermanence that is in accordance with the seed stream, the manifestation of the five realms of samsara, which are distinguished by the differences of beings, species, birthplaces, and various realms, is also established. Because it has been admitted that karma does not exist by its own nature, it will not fall into the fault of speaking of permanence. Also, because there is non-wastage, karma and so on are not wasted, such a dharma of non-wastage, awakened by being separated from all ignorance, is taught by the Blessed One, so what others said earlier: If it exists in the middle of the ripening time, then karma will become permanent, if it is annihilated, then it is already annihilated, how will it produce fruit? Whatever is said is unreasonable for our side. Therefore, only the examination we speak of is reasonable. It should be explained here: Those who say that karma itself is unreasonable, therefore arguing about the cause of the fruit, why are you so convinced because of the fear of the collapse of the city of Gandharvas, and laboriously working hard to protect it? Thus, if karma arises by its own nature, then existing before it ripens will become permanent, and if it is annihilated by destruction, when karma does not arise because of emptiness of self-nature, from what examination will existence and destruction become? Here it says: Because karma does not arise. The teacher said: Thus, because there is no self-nature. Because karma has no self-nature, it does not arise. If this is the case, if karma does not arise because it has no self-nature, then how did the Blessed One say: The karma of sentient beings, even for hundreds of kalpas, will not be wasted, when the time and conditions are gathered, it will ripen into fruit. If you ask this, answer: The intention of the Blessed One is: Because that is unborn, therefore it will not be wasted. It is like this, therefore this reason does not harm us. Karma has no self-nature, this matter should be known without doubt.

Otherwise, if karma has inherent existence, it will undoubtedly become permanent. Karma would not be created, because permanent things have no function. If karma exists by its own nature, then without a doubt it will become permanent, because inherent nature does not change. Therefore, karma becomes uncreated. Why? Because permanent things have no function. What is called permanent refers to something that exists, and what exists is not suitable for action, so it does not depend on causes. Therefore, without creating virtuous and non-virtuous actions, the world will ripen with results. Therefore, if karma is not created, then destruction by encountering the uncreated will occur. Abiding in pure conduct will also be impossible, which would be a fault. If karma is not created, then the destruction of encountering the uncreated will occur, because even for someone who has not committed the act of killing, that karma exists even though it has not been created, because it is related to it. Abiding in pure conduct will also belong to that side. Why? Because even for those who abide in pure conduct and are completely pure, there exists uncreated non-pure conduct, so everything abides in non-pure conduct, and no one will be able to be liberated from suffering. Furthermore, all worldly terms will undoubtedly contradict themselves. The distinction between doing good and doing evil will also be unreasonable. Those who engage in activities such as plowing fields, trading, and herding cattle for the sake of fruit will become meaningless because everything exists in an uncreated way. Worldly terms such as "Make a pot," "Pick up a cloth," and so on will also contradict each other, because everything, including pots, exists. The distinction of "This is doing good" and "This is doing evil" will also change. Because both doing good and doing evil each have uncreated good existing. Furthermore, that which has already ripened, the result of karma, will ripen again and again. If inherent existence exists, then why does karma exist? Therefore, the ripening of karma will
