If it is said that fire and firewood exist because the sight of firewood being burned by fire is perceived. Then, it can be said: If fire burns firewood, then that is how it would happen. But burning is not like that, if there were fire in the wood, it would burn the firewood, but that is not the case. It is said in the scriptures: Fire does not come from elsewhere, and there is no fire in the wood either. In short, fire cannot come from anywhere other than firewood, because it has not been seen. Moreover, because there is no cause, there is no arising of fire separate from firewood; and there is no need for it to arise together with firewood; and there, arguing and examining with firewood are the same, so it would fall into the fault of being endless. It is said in the scriptures: Fire does not come from elsewhere. Similarly, there is no fire in the wood either, because it is not found there. If it is thought that even if it exists like roots and water, etc., it was not perceived before because the conditions for making it manifest were not sufficient, but later it is perceived through rubbing wood, etc., because there are conditions for making it manifest. Then, it should be examined what the conditions that make roots and water, etc., manifest do? To this, first of all, they do not make their own essence, because they already exist. If it is said that they make it manifest, then what does it mean to manifest? To this, if it is said that they make it manifest, then they would be making something that did not exist before. If that were the case, then the assertion that the effect exists in the cause would have to be abandoned, because it was not manifest before, but it exists later. Moreover, because one's own essence does not need to rely on the conditions of arising, manifestation would also not become dependent on conditions, like a flower in the sky. Furthermore, if it is thought that manifestation refers to things becoming manifest, or to a cognition of something that is not manifest. Then, for things that have already become manifest, there is no need to make them manifest. Because making them manifest is meaningless, and it would fall into the fault of being endless. For things that have not become manifest,

It does not, because it is not manifest, like a flower in the sky. Thus, there is no manifest existence. If it is thought that it becomes coarse because it exists through conditions, then the coarse itself did not exist before, so it will become coarse. Therefore, how can it become manifest by making it coarse? The subtle itself is non-existent because it has no cause. What becomes manifest from being made coarse? Therefore, in all ways, fire cannot exist in firewood. There is no fire in wood either. That is what is said. It is also unreasonable for a non-existent fire to burn firewood, so this is a fallacy that you have seen. Furthermore, how the refutation of what has gone, what has not gone, and what is being gone has been explained before. Similarly, the remainder of the wood is indicated by what has gone, what has not gone, and what is being gone. Just as one sees firewood being burned by fire, this refers to the case of firewood. The remaining refutation of the case of firewood is: what is being burned does not burn for a while, and what has not been burned does not burn either. Apart from what has been burned and what has not been burned, the state of being burned cannot be known. Because it has already been indicated by these words, etc., it should be understood that it is similar to the refutation of what has gone, what has not gone, and what is being gone, by way of reversing the presentation. For what reason is it so? Therefore, it should be understood that the burning of firewood by fire does not exist. Now, in order to conclude the meaning that has been shown, it is said: The wood itself is not fire, and fire is not other than wood. Fire is not connected with wood, and there is no wood in fire, there is no it there. That is what was said. To that, if the firewood is fire, then the agent and the action become one. Because this denies that fire and firewood are one, it is said: The wood itself is not fire. If fire is other than wood, then it will arise even without wood. Because difference is denied by these words, etc., it is said: Fire is not other than wood. Because both the views of identity and difference have been denied, the views of being connected with it and of the support and the supported are also denied in effect, therefore, in order to conclude these, it is said: Fire is not connected with wood, and there is no wood in fire.
