However, seeing and hearing, etc., and feeling, etc., also, that from which the elements change, that is also not existent. From whichever great elements seeing, etc., are born, for those close-taking, this having the cause of the great elements should not exist, because of the reason previously stated. Regarding that, as previously said: What does not exist, where would it be? What is not, what would there be? Just like that, here also it should be said. If before the close-taking great elements, the self were established, then, it would closely take those great elements, but that is not so either, because there is no cause. What is non-existent, how would it closely take those great elements? Therefore, just like having the close-taking of seeing, for having the close-taking of the great elements also, it is the same fault, so it is not said again. Because of what reason it is like that, therefore, this is also not existent for the elements. Here it is said: If it is like that, although the self is obstructed, however, seeing, etc., are existent, because they have not been obstructed. Pots, etc., are not the nature of the self, for them, seeing, etc., are not related. Therefore, the self that is related to them is the only existent one. It should be said: If seeing, etc., themselves exist, I would also exist, but it is not existent, because seeing, etc., whose close-taking I am, that is non-existent. When that is shown, if the close-taker self does not exist, then seeing, etc., those that have become close-taken, how would they exist? What is said is: Seeing and hearing, etc., and feeling, etc., whose they are, if they do not exist, those are also not existent. It means: When the thought of whose seeing, etc., are does not exist, hasn't it been clearly shown that seeing, etc., also do not exist? Therefore, because seeing, etc., do not exist, the self also does not exist. Here it is said: What? Do you ascertain in that way that I do not exist? Who said that? Because seeing, etc., do not exist, I also do not exist, wasn't that just said?

Although the wise have spoken thus, you have not correctly determined this meaning. Because I have investigated whether the "I" has the nature of things, however, it does not exist by its own nature. I have also spoken words that can dispel the attachment to its self-nature appearance as an antidote to the unreal inversion. This is not an investigation into the non-existence of this thing, but rather, these two are to be abandoned: namely, attachment to the appearance of things, and attachment to the appearance of the non-existence of things. As the venerable Aryadeva said: Your "I" is not mine either, therefore the "I" has no self-nature, so it does not exist. For impermanent things, the discriminating thought of "permanence" also arises. It is said like this. In order to show that reason, whether before seeing, etc., now, or after, there is no "I." For it, does it exist or not exist? All kinds of discriminating thoughts will cease. It is said like this. Briefly speaking, there is no "I" before seeing, etc., because without separation from it, there is no existence. It also does not exist simultaneously with seeing, etc. Because for things that are not established separately, simultaneous existence is not seen. Like the two horns of a rabbit, for the "I" and the object of grasping that do not depend on each other, because they are not established separately, so they do not exist now either. There is also no after, like this, if seeing, etc., exist first, and the "I" exists in the time after, then at that time it will arise after. But that is not so, because without the agent, the action will not be established. When the "I" is completely investigated in this way, when it does not exist before or after or simultaneously with seeing, etc., having the nature of no object of focus, then, who with wisdom would discriminate whether it exists or does not exist? Therefore, the grasper and the grasped, like action and agent, are established in mutual dependence, but not established by their own nature. It abides in such a reason. Therefore, the Bhagavan also said in the *Samadhiraja Sutra*: At that time, the sinless Victorious One with the ten powers, will explain this supreme samadhi. The beginning of existence
