What to do? Therefore, if one thinks that destruction is without a cause, wouldn't things also become without a cause? Like this, things have come into existence, and what need is there for a cause for what already exists? For what has already been born cannot be born again. Therefore, it is unreasonable for everything to become without a cause. Furthermore, just as birth is with a cause because it was not before and is later, so too should destruction be considered to be with a cause. Destruction is not a change at all times, because it was not before birth and is later. What is said, 'What use is a cause for something that does not exist?' is also unreasonable, because we do not think that destruction needs a little cause, but rather that destruction itself is the cause. If that is the case, wouldn't destruction also become a thing because it is acting? This is exactly what we want, destruction is a thing in terms of its own nature, but it is not a thing because it is the opposite nature of forms and other dharmas. Furthermore, death is also close to two actions, as it is said in the scriptures, it both causes the destruction of actions and produces the cause of continuous ignorance, how could destruction not be with a cause? Also, if one acknowledges that emptiness, which is the characteristic of a thing that does not exist as observed by others, is the self-nature of a thing, how could one not acknowledge that a non-existent thing itself is a thing? Because it is a thing, how could emptiness be unconditioned? Therefore, all commitments will be ruined. Therefore, as it is said: How is nirvana, both existent and non-existent; nirvana is unconditioned, existent and non-existent are conditioned. It will be explained like this. End of elaboration. Now the main text will be explained. Here it is said: If the arising, abiding, and ceasing of conditioned things are prevented, even so, conditioned things with special characteristics still exist, such as hardness and so on.

O, hidden places and so on are shown to be close to its special characteristics. Therefore, because conditioned phenomena exist, its characteristics also exist. It should be said: If conditioned phenomena themselves exist, then such changing things do not exist. For example: birth, abiding, and cessation, because they are not established, conditioned phenomena do not exist. When only birth, abiding, and cessation are prevented in the manner described above, how can conditioned phenomena exist? Therefore, how can its special characteristics exist? Here it is said: Conditioned phenomena do exist, because their opponent, unconditioned phenomena, exists. It should be said: If unconditioned phenomena themselves exist, if it changes in this way, then it does not exist. Because conditioned phenomena are not completely established, how can unconditioned phenomena be established? Here, some people think that space and non-selective cessation and Nirvana are unconditioned phenomena, while others think that emptiness, which has the nature of suchness, is unconditioned phenomena. All of these are clearly shown to be non-existent because conditioned phenomena are not completely established. Here it is said: If it is definitely held that birth, abiding, and cessation do not exist, then how should we understand what the Thubpa (Buddha), who possesses unobstructed wisdom, said: "Bhikkhus, conditioned phenomena also appear to be born, and also appear to change from cessation and abiding"? It should be said: Like a dream, like an illusion, like a city of Gandharvas, similarly birth is proclaimed, similarly abiding is proclaimed, similarly cessation is proclaimed. Just as illusions and so on are not born by nature, but in the world, what is expressed by the words of illusions and so on, and what is known by the consciousnesses of illusions and so on, becomes knowable, similarly, birth and so on, although they do not exist by nature, but only through worldly fame, the Blessed One has proclaimed. It is also said: Skin, tendons, flesh, and bones are gathered together, and for these, the thought of being a wife arises, and foolish children generate desire, and do not recognize women like illusions. Like a dream of a young girl
