If it produces itself, does it produce its own nature by something that is born or unborn? Either way is unreasonable, as it is said: How can this birth produce its own nature by the unborn? If it is produced by the born, what is there to produce if it is already born? If birth produces its own nature by the unborn, then even a flower in the sky would produce its own nature. But if it is produced by the born, what need is there for another birth for something that is already born? Thus, for the time being, birth does not produce its own nature. Now, to further explain how it does not produce, it is said: The born, the unborn, and the being born, do not produce in any way. This is explained by the gone, the not gone, and the way of going. If something is going to be born, then it is something that is produced by birth. But in reality, there is no birth, because there is no birth in the three times. This can also be explained by the gone, the not gone, and the way of going. For the gone, there is no going, because the past and the present are contradictory. For the not gone, there is also no going, because the future and the present are contradictory. For the going, there is also no going, because there is no other way of going that can be observed other than the gone and the not gone. As it is said, the born does not give rise, because the past and the present are contradictory. The so-called born is when the act of birth has ceased; and birth is the state that is encompassed by the act and the present. Therefore, if it is said that the born gives rise, then the past and the present become the same time. The unborn also does not give rise, because the future and the present are contradictory. The object that is being born also does not give rise, because there is no other state of being born other than the born and the unborn. Therefore, it is unreasonable to think that birth can produce other things. Here someone says: Only the being born produces, not the born and the unborn. If you think that because there is no being born that is different from the unborn and the born, therefore the being born is not birth, then this is also

It is not so, because whatever has the function of arising is called 'arising'. Therefore, because there is arising, and because arising is established in dependence on arising, only the arising arises, and that arising is also produced by arising. It should be said: When arising exists, if this arising does not occur, then how, relying on arising, is it called arising? It becomes arising in dependence on arising, and if what you said is also arising, then if it is necessary to explain in detail, this arising that depends on arising, then it has not been said in that way. It is also not possible to clearly determine that this arising is this arising, because it has not arisen, so its characteristics cannot be grasped. Therefore, because there is no arising, there is also no function of arising, and since there is no arising, how can it depend on it and become arising? Therefore, it is unreasonable to say that arising arises, and that it is also produced by arising. Here it is said: Alas, I, in the guise of explaining the Buddha's teachings, only appear to be proficient in refuting myself, and regarding the ultimate truth, spoken by the supreme sage, merely as a cause, possessing the nature of dependent origination, dispelling fear, for you who say that visible and invisible phenomena are independent and completely annihilated, I am very afraid. Because here the Blessed One, the Tathagata, said: 'This exists, therefore that arises; this arises, therefore that arises,' and so on, thus clearly explaining dependent origination without inversion, and eliminating the views that say that nature, freedom, self-essence, time, atoms, the son of the desireless, etc., are the creators, thereby revealing the suchness of all phenomena. But you refute it with 'Born, unborn, arising, in no way do they produce,' etc., then you have killed the place created by the Tathagata—dependent origination.
