If darkness is dispelled without contact, then, since it is so, the lamp here would dispel the darkness in all places of the world. Because there is no contact, one would think it is like being nearby. In this way, wisdom destroys ignorance, the eye sees objects, the magnet attracts iron, etc., and it should be known that it is the same as these things that need to be proven. If it is said that even without contact, magnets, etc., only produce their effect on things that are in a suitable place, that is also unreasonable. If there is no contact, then for things that are in a distant other place, and for things in another place that are obstructed, because there is no contact, it is unreasonable for things in a suitable place to act on things in a suitable place themselves, so how can the production of an effect through being in a suitable place be established? If it is said that this is how it appears in the world, that is not so, the world does not appear as you imagine it. In the world, one does not analyze contact and non-contact with things like suitable places, nor does one imagine that lamps, etc., illuminate things, but without making the above-mentioned analysis, one believes that lamps dispel darkness, eyes see objects, magnets attract iron, etc. Therefore, the world does not appear as you say. Or, the world may appear that way, but only when analyzing, the world is not a reliable measure, so it cannot cause harm. Thus, for the time being, it is unreasonable to appear without contact. If one grasps a place, etc., by contact, it is also unreasonable. Because contact becomes one, and when it becomes one, there is no seeing or pulling, etc., as its own nature. If again, because it is unreasonable, this itself is false, so in worldly speech, one does not think about contact and non-contact, etc., even so, in the ultimate truth, one has already admitted the side of unreasonableness.

Therefore, one should engage in analyzing the suchness in detail. Enough of elaboration. If it is conceived that a lamp illuminates both itself and others, then it should also be conceived that darkness, being the antidote, obscures both itself and others. It is said: If a lamp is a thing of itself and others, and if it illuminates, then there is no doubt that darkness also obscures the things of itself and others, because they are opposites. Like a lamp, darkness also acts to perceive things of itself and others. Therefore, like others, it also obscures itself. If darkness obscures itself, then because of being obscured by darkness, it itself will become invisible, like a pot and so on. Therefore, in the Sutra Requested by the Noble Upali, it is also said: For this extremely joyful teaching, renunciates who have abandoned the marks of householders, have fruits and are supremely excellent. The compassionate one also taught thus. Having abandoned the marks of householders and become renunciates, even if all the fruits are obtained, by measuring the nature of the Dharma, there are neither all the fruits nor the attainment of fruits. However, the attainment of fruits is attainable. Alas! The supreme among humans, the Victorious One endowed with compassion, has explained the reasoning so well. They will give rise to great wonder. Thus it is said. Similarly, in the Noble Jewel Heap Sutra, it is also said: For example, in a house, if someone blows out a lamp after it has been lit for a long time, the darkness does not think, 'I have taken my place, I have entered myself, I will not leave from here.' When a lamp appears, darkness has no power to not disappear into the darkness. Relying on the lamp, darkness disappears. Both are empty and have no arrogance. Similarly, relying on the stainless wisdom of the noble ones, the accumulation of ignorance and afflictions disappears. Wisdom and afflictions, even if they are eternal, they have never met even once. Even if one does not think that wisdom and ignorance need to be removed, relying on wisdom, ignorance disappears. Both are ungraspable, like flowers in the sky. Similarly, both wisdom and ignorance are empty. Thus it is said. Furthermore, here, if this birth
