It should be applied in this way: it is not so. Similarly, the three vows should also be applied in this way. If it is necessary to hold that "it is not born from itself," then wouldn't it become that one does not accept that it is born from another? No, because one wants to express the negation of non-existence, and it will also prevent arising from another. By what reason will it not become arising from itself? Because if it arises from that, there is no merit whatsoever. It is also not reasonable for what has already arisen to arise again. It should be determined through the gateway of entering the Middle Way and so on. The teacher Buddhapālita also said: Things do not arise from themselves, because their arising would become meaningless, and it would become extremely excessive. For those things that exist in their own nature, there is no need for arising again. If it exists and arises, then it will never stop arising. Some people object to this, saying that it is not reasonable, because no reason or example has been stated, and the faults spoken by others have not been eliminated. Because it is an excessive statement, it should be proven by reversing from the meaning of the occasion, and because the meaning of reversing its nature is manifested, things will become arising from another, arising will become with fruit, and arising will become finite, therefore it will contradict the established tenets. We see that all these faults are unreasonable. How so? Because it is unreasonable to say that "for the time being, no reason or example has been stated." Why? Because the meaning of "from oneself" is that what already exists is the cause, and it itself arises. However, for what already exists, we do not see the need for arising again, nor do we see that there is no end. You do not want what has already arisen to arise again, nor do you want there to be no end. Therefore, your argument is unreasonable and contradicts what you have promised. This is a question posed to those who claim that arising is from oneself, from where can the reason and example become fruitful?

If one argues with just these, wouldn't the opponent concede? However, if the opponent doesn't retreat even when argued against due to contradicting their own admissions, then for the shameless, even reason and example won't make them retreat. We are not arguing with madmen. Therefore, the teacher fully engages in inference even in inappropriate situations, which shows that he himself enjoys inference. If one is a Madhyamika, then it is not reasonable to infer about one's own continuum, because no other tenet is admitted. As Aryadeva said: 'Neither existence, nor non-existence, nor both, exists in any tenet; therefore, even after a long time, no fault can be stated.' Also, in the refutation of debate, it is said: 'If I have any pledge, then I have that fault. Since I have no pledge, I am without fault. If something is determined by direct perception, etc., then the establishment should also be refuted; since it is not, I have no fault.' When the Madhyamika does not express inference about his own continuum, then, what is the meaning of the pledge that the Samkhyas ask: 'Is it from the nature of the effect, or from the nature of the cause?' What will become of that? If it is from the nature of the effect, then it is establishing what is already established; if it is from the nature of the cause, then it becomes a contradictory meaning, because all that has birth only arises from existing in the nature of the cause. How would the Samkhyas refute this? Where is there a pledge of one's own continuum like 'internal sources of birth, etc., do not arise'? Where do we have establishing what is already established, or becoming a contradictory meaning? Where is there a reason to strive to avoid establishing what is already established and a contradictory meaning? Therefore, because one does not fall into the faults spoken by others, the teacher Buddhapālita.

It is not appropriate to answer with that. If, according to the Madhyamikas, since the পক্ষ (pakṣa, subject), হেতু (hetu, reason), and দৃষ্টান্ত (dṛṣṭānta, example) are not established, one does not state the inference of one's own continuum, thereby not establishing the meaning of the proposition to refute self-origination, although one cannot eliminate the proposition of others with an inference that is established for both parties. However, for the proposition of others, it is necessary to state the contradiction with one's own inference. Therefore, one must have পক্ষ (pakṣa, subject) etc. and be free from the faults of reason and example. Therefore, if one thinks that because that is not stated and because that fault is not eliminated, it will become that fault, then it should be said that it is not like that. Why? Because, whatever meaning is proposed by someone, he wants to make others certain as he himself is certain. Therefore, it is necessary to state to others the reason by which the meaning is understood. Therefore, it is not reasonable for the establishment of the meaning of the proposition that one has accepted to be established only by the other party. This is not a reason for others. Since there is no reason and example, the establishment of the meaning of one's own proposition is merely the establishment of following the promise. Therefore, by promising an unreasonable पक्ष (pakṣa, subject), this is merely deceiving oneself and cannot make others certain. Therefore, the fact that one has no ability to establish the meaning of one's own proposition is the clearest refutation of this. What is the need to state harm by inference here? If one says that one must undoubtedly state the contradiction with one's own inference, then that is also the teacher
