Furthermore. Thirdly, what will remain? Just as the traveler does not remain, so the subsequent verses will show. The non-traveler also does not remain, for if that is remaining itself, then what need is there for another remaining for it? One remaining will become a non-traveler, and another will become remaining, because there will be two remainings, so the remainer will also become two, which will be like the previous fault. There is also no meaning apart from the traveler and the non-traveler. Here it is said, the non-traveler does not remain, and neither does anything other than the traveler and the non-traveler remain. So what is it? It is the traveler himself who remains. That is not so, because why? When there is no traveling, the traveler cannot be established. To say that the traveler remains for a while, how can that be established? When it is said that this remains, at that time there is no traveling that contradicts the remaining, and without traveling, it is not possible to say that there is a traveler. Therefore, it is not reasonable to say that the traveler remains. Here it is said that traveling is completely existent because there is a return. If here, when returning from traveling, remaining is initiated, then if there is no traveling, it will not be possible to return from it. It should be said that if the very act of returning from it exists, then the existence of traveling is meaningless, just like this. There is no turning back from stepping, nor from what has been gone and not gone. Those two do not turn back from the path that the traveler has gone, because there is no traveling. Nor is it from what has not been gone, because there is no traveling at all. Nor does it turn back from stepping, because it is not seen, and there is no activity of traveling. Therefore, there is no turning back from traveling. Here it is said, if traveling is non-existent because there is no remaining as its opposite, then in order to establish traveling, remaining should be established, because by establishing it, traveling is established. Therefore, remaining is existent because there is an opposite. The opposite of remaining is traveling, and that is existent. Therefore, remaining is also existent because there is an opposite.

If asked, why is that? This is also not valid. It is like this: "Going and entering, returning is also the same as going." Here, the going that is established to establish staying is the same as going, meaning it is the same as refuting going. For example, "For a while, the goer does not stay." etc. Just as the statement that refutes staying, which is established as a reason to thoroughly establish going, is stated, so too here, for the going that is established as a reason to establish staying, one should also recite the two verses "For a while, the stayer does not go." etc., alternating them to state the refutation. Therefore, there is no going, and because there is no going, there is also no rival staying. Thus, for a while, going should be clearly shown to be the same as going. If one thinks that staying is indeed existent because it has a beginning, and that here, after abandoning going, staying will begin, and how can that which is a beginning not be existent? It should be said that entering should also be said to be the same as going. Then, just as before, the beginning of going was prevented by "Having gone, there is no beginning of going." etc., so too here, one should also alternate the three verses "Staying, there is no beginning of staying." etc., and the entering of staying should also be eliminated in the same way as going. If one thinks that staying is indeed existent because there is a reversal from it, and that here, after Deva becomes staying, going will begin when reversing from staying, and if staying were not existent, then there would be no reversing from it, if one thinks like that. It should be said that if its reversal were existent, then would staying be existent? That is not existent. Because reversing is also the same as going, reversing from staying should also be eliminated in the same way as reversing from going. Just as when preventing going, "Not going, one does not reverse from a step, nor from having gone or not gone." is stated as a refutation of going, so too when negating staying, one should also say, "Not staying, one does not reverse from staying, nor from staying or not staying.", this is the same as the refutation of going, therefore, staying is not existent.
