That is also the same examination. Therefore, that is unreasonable. Furthermore, if one considers the eye, etc., to be the cause of consciousness, is one considering this to be something that exists or does not exist? It is said that in every way it is unreasonable. Regarding the meaning of non-existence or existence, a cause is not reasonable. Why is that? It is explained: If it does not exist, what does it become the cause of? If it exists, what does the cause do? It is said to be non-existent. How can it become a cause for something that does not exist? If one says that it becomes manifest by becoming produced, that is not the case. If one wants to say that it becomes manifest by becoming produced, then because of the statement that this becoming produced is without power, it is said to be faulty because of the existence and non-existence, etc. If it exists, that is, if one has already obtained existence and birth, then even by fully examining the cause, there is no result. Thus, since the collection of causes is unable to produce a result, it is asserted that it is not a cause. After that, one should show that each individual is not a cause. Here it is said: If that is the case, although the causes are not possible, nevertheless, from the close manifestation of the characteristic, the establishment of the cause is indeed existent. The means of accomplishing that is the cause, and thus the characteristic of the causal condition is stated. For the son of a barren woman who does not exist, the close manifestation of the characteristic is not stated. If its characteristic becomes existent, does it become a causal condition? It is not existent. Why? When the dharma is existent, non-existent, and both existent and non-existent, it is not established. How is it called the accomplishing cause? If that is the case, it is unreasonable. The means of accomplishing that is the producer. If the dharma to be accomplished is established, does the cause that produces it produce it? It is also not established, because the nature is not established in existence, non-existence, and both. In that case, existence is not established because it exists. Non-existence is also not existent because it does not exist. Existence and non-existence are also not existent, because there is no single meaning that contradicts each other, and because it becomes a fault of saying on both sides. For what reason is there no birth of a result in that way? Therefore, the causal condition is also not existent. Therefore, the characteristic

You say that because there is existence, there is a cause and condition, if that is the case, then it is too inferior. Now, in order to refute the object-condition, (verse) this object of existing dharma, only shows non-existence, if the dharma has no object, how can there be an object? It is said so. What are the dharmas that are combined with the object here? All minds and mental factors. As it is said in the sutra, the minds and mental factors arise according to their respective objects such as form, that is their object-condition. Then, is it observed for the existent or for the non-existent? For the existent, the object-condition is meaningless, in order to generate the dharma, the object is fully understood, because it exists before the object. If so, the self-nature of the dharma is completely established as without object, then what is the use of examining this with object? Therefore, the dharma with existence, such as mind, this without object, you are merely showing that it is your own desired object, there is no slight object connection to this. If the object is fully understood for the non-existent, that is also unreasonable. (Verse) This dharma without object, only shows the existent. etc. Like this, for the non-existent, there is no object connection. This dharma without object, you only show the existent, that is, it has become existent, having an object is a superfluous word. If the dharma has no object, how can there be an object? Among them, "if" is an interrogative word. "How can there be" is the reason. Therefore, the meaning is, if so, the dharma is not existent, and does not have, is without object, then how can there be an object? Here there can be, because there is no object, so there is no object, that is the meaning. If the mind and mental factors etc. how can they become with object? This nature is the conventional truth, not the ultimate truth, so there is no fault. Now it is the immediately preceding condition.

In order to refute dependent origination. If phenomena are not born, then cessation is not reasonable. Therefore, the immediately preceding condition is not reasonable. If there is cessation, what is the cause? This was said. Regarding this, it should be observed whether the feet of the latter half of the verse are reversed. Also, the word "also" should be connected in order with "if there is cessation." Therefore, it should be recited like this: If there is cessation, what is the cause? Therefore, the immediately preceding condition is not reasonable. It is said that reciting in this way is to harmonize the verses. Regarding this, the immediately preceding cause of the arising of the fruit after the cessation of the cause is the nature of the similar immediately preceding condition. This should be analyzed. If the phenomena that become the fruit, such as sprouts, are not born, then the cessation of the cause, such as seeds, is not reasonable. When this is the case, because the cause does not cease, what is the similar immediately preceding condition of the sprout? If it is assumed that the seed will cease even if the fruit does not arise, then, if the seed ceases, that is, does not exist, what is the cause of the sprout? What is the cause of the cessation of the seed? Both of these will become causeless, it is explained: If there is cessation, what is the cause? The meaning of "also" is relative to not being born. Therefore, even if the sprout does not arise, it is assumed that the seed will cease, then both will become causeless, therefore, the immediately preceding condition is not reasonable. Or, birth is refuted by "not from self, not from other," etc. Considering the refutation of birth, if phenomena are not born, then cessation is not reasonable. Therefore, it is said that the immediately preceding condition is not reasonable. Furthermore, if there is cessation, what is the cause? The explanation for this should be the same as before. Now, in order to eliminate the independent cause, it is explained as follows: Seeds, etc., of things that are without inherent existence, what existence is not existence? Because this exists, this arises, such a statement is not reasonable. Here, whatever exists and whatever arises, that is its independent agent, this is the nature of the independent cause. Things arise dependently, because there is no inherent existence, so what is the cause of "this"
