For that reason, and because only another is born here, the previous self will be cut off. If that self is cut off, then the fruits of karma, those that ultimately continue, will be completely cut off because the basis is cut off, and because there is no profundity either, the fruits will only be wasted. If it is thought that the fruits of karma created by the previous self are fully enjoyed by the later self, then in that case, the fruits of karma created by others will be enjoyed by others. Therefore, if karma is not created, there will be undesirable situations such as the fear of encountering the uncreated. Furthermore, if this self is different from the previous self and is born here, then at that time it will become the later arising from the previously unarisen, in order to show that that is also unreasonable, (it is said in the sutra:) "Not from the unborn to be born, here the fault becomes a fault, I would become a created nature, birth would also become causeless." If I arise later from the previously unarisen, then at that time I would become created, but we do not think that I am created, because that would become impermanent. Since there is no creator different from that creator, how could I be created? If it is thought that I am created, then samsara would have a beginning, and previously non-existent beings would also appear, but that is not the case, therefore I am also not created. Furthermore, "birth also becomes causeless," if I arise from the unarisen, then it will only become causeless, because previously there was no I, no creator, it will become causeless. The word 'also' is a distinction, am I created? Or was I not present in the past? This is not admitted. Is my arising causeless? Or was I not present in the past? This is unreasonable, this should be admitted. Now, in order to summarize the meaning as shown above, (it is said in the sutra:) "Thus I am born, I am unborn, both, both are not, if there is one who observes the past, that is not reasonable." Like that

As it is said, the view that the past exists, or the view that the past does not exist, these views are unreasonable. Because neither of these exists, both are unreasonable. Why? Like this, if we examine calling the combination of the two "both," then because each individual entity does not exist separately, how can they be combined? Therefore, neither exists. Because neither exists, how can "neither of the two" exist by negating them? Therefore, it is also unreasonable to think that "it is neither existent nor non-existent." Therefore, in this way, it is shown that the four views that rely on the prior extreme are impossible. Now, it is said to refute the views that rely on the posterior extreme: 'The future will exist, or it will not exist,' whoever holds these views is the same as the past. Just as the four views of the past are refuted, the four refutations of the future should also be refuted by converting the content that has already been said. Like this, 'The future will exist,' this statement is unreasonable. What is to be produced in the future is not this now. In this way, by negating identity, all situations should be similarly connected. Similarly, 'The future will not exist,' this statement is also unreasonable. What is to be produced in the future is not something different from this. In this way, by converting the content of the previous verses, the negation of otherness should also be similarly connected. Now, in order to refute the four views of the prior extreme that consider permanence, etc., 'If that god is that person, then it will become permanent. The god will become unborn, because the permanent has no birth.' Here it is said that some people living in the human realm will be reborn in the realm of the gods by doing good deeds. Regarding this, if it is thought that that god is that person, and in this way the two become the same entity, then at that time it will become permanent, and the so-called god is the person, this situation is not like that. Therefore, permanence does not exist. Furthermore, if it is said to be permanent, then the god will become unborn. Why?
