Here, just as it represents the hardness of the earth, the experience of feeling, and the various objects of consciousness, the self-nature that is not common with others in its own essence is the self-characteristic. Abandoning the well-known and related detailed explanations, if one acknowledges the action and understands it as the essence of consciousness, then it can be said that only the self-characteristic is itself, and the other self-characteristic is the essence of action. If the self-characteristic of consciousness is action, then there must be a different action from it, and thus one would fall into the same fault. If it is thought that the hardness and so on belonging to the earth and so on are what is to be cognized by consciousness, and that is its action, and that it is not different from the self-characteristic, then, since it is not the self-characteristic of consciousness, it will not become measurable, because only the self-characteristic of the nature of action is measurable. Therefore, there are two kinds of measurable: the self-characteristic and the common characteristic. If it is said that "a little of the self-characteristic is measurable because it is represented," then it is necessary to state this difference: "a little is not measurable because it represents." If this is also an action, then at that time there must be another agent, and if it is understood that other knowledge is the essence of action, one would also fall into the fault of infinite regress. If there is self-awareness, and therefore self-awareness holds it, so it is an action, and it is included in the category of measurable, then it should be explained: since self-awareness is widely prohibited in the *Entering the Middle Way*, it is not reasonable that the self-characteristic is represented by another self-characteristic, and that self-awareness represents it. Furthermore, since that knowledge is impossible, the difference from the self-characteristic is not established, and if there is no basis, the characteristic of having no basis will not exist, therefore it does not exist in any way, so where is self-awareness?
