Those reasons that are widely known to rely solely on some basis, in order for others to understand them, (the Buddha) promised and personally made the world comprehend. Just as the body itself has the nature of impurity, but due to the influence of inverted views, those with desire do not target it, but falsely believe it to be pure, thereby becoming completely afflicted. In order to free them from desire, the emanation of the Thus-Gone One or a deity will reveal the faults of the body, which were previously covered by the notion of purity, by means of names such as "hair." When they are free from the notion of purity, they will attain the state of being free from desire. Similarly, here, ordinary beings, due to the obscuration of ignorance, have their eye of wisdom impaired, and thus have an inverted perception of the nature of things. The noble ones consider things to be of a nature that is completely invisible in every way, but some falsely attach some special attributes, thereby making the Dharma very confusing. Now, just as the noble ones acknowledge that the existence of a pot does not arise from clay and other materials, so too should it be certain that what exists before arising does not arise either, because it already exists. Furthermore, just as it is acknowledged that a sprout does not arise from fire and charcoal, which have been transformed into other substances, so too should it be certain that it does not arise from seeds and other things that one wants to express. If someone thinks that this is what we have experienced, this is also unreasonable, because such experience is false. Because the experience itself is like a person with blurred vision experiencing seeing two moons. Therefore, experience itself is equivalent to what needs to be proven, so it is not reasonable to refute it with that. That is how the Buddha made them comprehend through well-known facts. Therefore, things are essentially unborn. Thus, for the time being, in order to counteract the inverted view of falsely attaching the nature of things, the first discourse was initiated. Next is falsely attaching certain attributes to certain things.

In order to eliminate that difference, the remaining treatise was composed. It is to be shown that in dependent arising, the agent, the object to be acted upon, and the place of action, etc., all differences are not completely absent. If it is thought that the worldly terms of valid cognition and object of valid cognition are what we are stating in our treatises, then it is necessary to state the purpose of stating them. If the logicians think that because they have stated the definitions perversely, they have destroyed it, and therefore we are stating its definition correctly, this is also unreasonable. If the world, because of bad logic, states the definition perversely, and the object to be signified becomes perverse, then striving for that would become fruitful. But that is not the case, so this effort is meaningless. Furthermore, if the object of valid cognition depends on valid cognition, then "by what are those valid cognitions completely determined?" etc., since the fault stated from refuting the arguments has not been eliminated, it is not possible to clarify the correct definition. Furthermore, if two characteristics are stated by virtue of the two definitions of self and general characteristics, then does the basis on which those two definitions exist, exist or not? If it exists, then at that time, since the object of valid cognition exists from those, how are there two valid cognitions? If the basis does not exist, then at that time, since there is no support, the definition also does not exist, so how can there be two valid cognitions? The definition does not apply. The basis will not be established. If the basis is not established, the definition also does not exist. It will be explained in this way. If it is also thought that it is not the definition because it is signified by this, then what is it? Because "action and manner are mostly" in this way, after applying "lyuṭa" to the action, it is a definition because it is signified by this. Even so, it is not possible to signify it by itself, because the action and the object that signify it are different, so the same fault will occur. If it is thought that because it is the action of knowledge, and it is also included within the scope of its own definition, so there is no fault, then it should be said, hope.
