If some are non-existent, how could nirvana not be dependent? It is only dependent, because it is non-existent, just like destruction. To clarify this, (it is said in the scriptures:) "Whatever is not dependent, non-existence does not exist." If non-existence that is not dependent does not exist, then what do the son of a barren woman, etc., depend on to become non-existent? Who said that the son of a barren woman, etc., are non-existent? Like this, (it is said in the scriptures:) "If existence is not established, non-existence will not be established. People say that existence becomes something else, that is non-existence." It has been said before. Therefore, the son of a barren woman, etc., are not non-existent. Also, where (it is said in the scriptures:) "Just like the horns of a sky rabbit and the son of a barren woman, although they do not exist, they are spoken of in language, so is the attachment to existence." There also, it is only the cessation of attachment to existence, not attachment to non-existence, know that, because existence itself is not established. The son of a barren woman, this is just a sound, which meaning will become existence or non-existence? This meaning is not seen. Therefore, how can one establish existence and non-existence for a nature that is not seen? Therefore, know that the son of a barren woman is not non-existent. Therefore, "Whatever is not dependent, non-existence does not exist." This statement is established. Here, if nirvana is not existence, nor is it non-existence, then what is nirvana? (The answer is:) Here the Blessed Ones, the Tathagatas, say: "Whatever is the existence of coming and going, dependent or taken as a cause, that is not dependent, nor taken as a cause, it is shown to be nirvana." Among them, the existence of coming and going is the existence of coming and going, which is a synonym for birth and death passing from one to another. The existence of coming and going is sometimes considered to exist depending on the collection of causes and conditions, and is considered to be long and short.

Weeping. Sometimes it is attached as a cause, like the light of a lamp. If here it is attached as a cause, or it arises dependently, it can be established in this way. In all ways, the continuum of birth and death, that which does not allow to be without dependence or as a cause, is established as nirvana. Just not allowing to exist, it cannot be examined as a thing or a non-thing. In that way, nirvana is neither a thing nor a non-thing. Or, according to those who consider conditioned existence to be cyclic existence, whatever arises and disintegrates dependently, not allowing to be without dependence, is called nirvana. Or, according to those who consider the person to be cyclic existence, the non-apprehension of the coming and going of that which cannot be said to be permanent or impermanent, relying on that and that which exists is to enter as a cause. That which is caused and enters as a cause, that itself not allowing to be not caused now, is called nirvana. Just the non-existence of aggregates and persons cannot be examined as a thing or a non-thing. Therefore, nirvana should not be a thing or a non-thing. Furthermore: arising and disintegration, the teacher taught to abandon. Therefore, nirvana should not be real, nor should it be unreal. In this regard, the sutra says: Monks, those who seek to emerge from existence through arising or disintegration, that is their great ignorance. The craving for arising and the craving for disintegration, both of these should be completely abandoned. However, the Blessed One did not say that nirvana should be abandoned. What then? It is not to be abandoned. Therefore, if nirvana were of the nature of a thing, or became of the nature of a non-thing, then it would also become only to be abandoned. But it is not to be abandoned. Therefore, nirvana should not be a thing, nor should it be a non-thing. Whatever

According to which saying, afflictions and existence do not exist in it. Nirvana is the nature of non-entity, and itself is the nature of entity, so it is the nature of entity, like this, both natures are. Nirvana with two natures is also unreasonable, to show this reason, it is said: If Nirvana is, both entity and non-entity, entity and non-entity, if they become liberation, that is unreasonable. If Nirvana becomes the nature of both entity and non-entity, then, at that time, entity and non-entity will become liberation. Therefore, if obtaining the nature of formations, and whatever is separated from it is liberation, then it is also unreasonable for formations to be called liberation. Therefore, it is said that it is unreasonable. Furthermore, if Nirvana is, both entity and non-entity, Nirvana is not non-dependent, because those two are dependent. If Nirvana is the nature of entity and non-entity, then, at that time, it depends on the collection of causes and conditions, it is not non-dependent. Why? Because, those two are dependent, depending on entity there is non-entity, depending on non-entity, there is entity. Entity and non-entity, those two are dependent, not non-dependent. Nirvana is the nature of entity and non-entity, if it becomes like that because of this, that is not like that either, therefore this is unreasonable. Furthermore, how is Nirvana, both entity and non-entity, Nirvana is unconditioned, entity and non-entity are conditioned. Entity is produced from the collection of its own causes and conditions, so it is conditioned, non-entity also arises depending on entity, and, because of the cause of birth, there is aging and death, so it is conditioned. Therefore, if Nirvana is the nature of entity and non-entity, then, at that time, it is unconditioned, if it becomes conditioned, then, it is desired as conditioned.
