If, there is no arising and no destruction. Who wants to become nirvana from abandonment and cessation? From what, would the cessation of those become nirvana? How could afflictions and aggregates reverse their self-existent nature? Because self-nature has no reversal. Therefore, for those who speak of self-nature, nirvana is unreasonable. From what, would these faults occur? Those who speak of emptiness do not consider nirvana to be the nature of the cessation of afflictions, or the nature of the cessation of aggregates. Therefore, this accusation does not occur to those who speak of emptiness. If those who speak of emptiness do not consider nirvana to be the nature of the cessation of aggregates or afflictions, then what kind of nature do they want to have? Answer: There is no abandonment, no attainment, no annihilation, no permanence, no cessation, no arising, that is called nirvana. Like desire and so on, there is no abandonment, like the fruit of a renunciate, there is no attainment, like aggregates and so on, there is no annihilation, like nothing is empty, it is not permanent, there is no cessation of self-nature, no arising, the nature of the pacification of all elaborations, that is called nirvana. Therefore, in such a state, what afflictions are abandoned, that he will become nirvana? Where would there be a distinction of afflictions? Which aggregates cease, that he will attain? Where would there be a distinction of aggregates? As long as these distinctions arise, the attainment of nirvana will not exist, because it is only through the cessation of all elaborations that it is attained. If there are no afflictions in nirvana, and no aggregates, even so, it still exists before nirvana. Therefore, some think that the cessation of those is from the cessation of elaborations and becomes nirvana. Answer: This clinging should be abandoned. Because things that exist by their own nature before nirvana cannot be made non-existent again. Therefore, those who want nirvana should abandon this distinction. What is the limit of nirvana?

That is the limit of samsara. The difference between those two is slight, and there is not even the slightest bit. It will be explained thus. The Bhagavan also said: 'In nirvana, there are no dharmas. Whatever dharma is not there, those are also not there. Those who have thoughts of existence and non-existence, those who act in that way, their suffering will not cease.' It is said so. The meaning of this verse is this: In nirvana, that is, in the realm of nirvana without remainder. The dharmas are those characterized by afflictions, actions, and births, or the aggregates, because they are completely separated in every way, they do not exist at all. This is the desire of all opponents. Just as in the darkness, one mistakes a rope for a snake when a lamp is extinguished, those dharmas that do not exist in this nirvana do not exist at all. Those dharmas characterized by afflictions, actions, and births do not truly exist even at some times in the state of samsara. Thus, in the state of darkness, the rope does not exist in its own nature as a snake, but like a snake that has come into existence, it will also be apprehended in darkness and light. If so, how is it samsara? It is said: Just as hairs, flies, long beaks, etc., appear to those with blurred vision, those things that are of the nature of existence and non-existence, but because children are not truly between self and what belongs to self, those who are possessed by the demon of inversion appear to be true. That is what is said: 'Those who have thoughts of existence and non-existence, those who act in that way, their suffering will not cease.' It is like that. Those who have thoughts of existence, who think that things exist, such as the Vaisheshika school, those who are connected to the Vaisheshika and Samkhya schools, and those who have thoughts of non-existence, such as the nihilists, and others besides them, who say that the past and future conditioned phenomena, and the non-cognitive, and the non-associated conditioned phenomena do not exist, and those who say that others besides them exist, and those who say that the completely imputed nature does not exist, and those who say that the dependent and perfectly established natures exist, the suffering of those who say existence and non-existence in this way, that is, samsara, will not be pacified.

It is called "Woe." Similarly, just as one faints from being poisoned by a sense of suspicion, even if the poison has not entered the stomach. Similarly, children cling to self and what belongs to self, and for that self, incorrect consciousness constantly arises and ceases. It has also been said. Therefore, seeing it in this way, there is nothing to abandon in Nirvana, and there is nothing to cease, so it should be known. Therefore, the cessation of all thoughts is Nirvana. As it is said in the Noble Ratnavali: If Nirvana is not unreal, then it must be real. Grasping reality and non-reality, extinction is called Nirvana. So it is said. Those who do not realize that Nirvana is the nature of the complete pacification of all thoughts, and who completely conceive of Nirvana as the nature of reality, non-reality, both, or neither, to them it is said: For the time being, Nirvana is not real, otherwise it would lead to having the nature of old age and death. But there is no reality without old age and death. Here, some who manifestly cling to Nirvana as real say: Here, Nirvana is the inevitable cessation of the continuous flow of afflictions, karma, and birth, like a dam that stops the flow of water, it is of the nature of reality, because it has never been seen that a dharma of the nature of non-reality can produce such a result. If not, has it not been said that the cessation of existence that transforms together with the desire for joy, and the cessation of being free from desire, is Nirvana? Mere cessation should not be real either. Similarly, as a lamp is extinguished, his mind is liberated. So it is said, it is also unreasonable to say that the extinguishing of a lamp is real. Answer: The cessation of craving is the cessation of craving, it should not be understood in this way. Then how should it be understood? It should be understood that if there is a dharma called Nirvana, then the cessation of craving is the cessation of craving. The lamp is only a metaphor. There, it should also be known that if there is anything, the mind is liberated. So it is said. Thus, Nirvana is real and abides.
