And, for the time being, it is not actual nirvana. The teacher thus contemplates with certainty. Why is that? Because, the characteristic of aging would be excessive, because things are not confused with the characteristic of aging. Therefore, it would also not become nirvana itself, because it possesses the characteristic of aging, just like consciousness and so forth, that is his intention. In order to eliminate that which is not confused with the characteristic of aging, there is no thing that is without aging and death. It is said, whatever is separated from aging and death is not a thing itself, because it is separated from aging and death, like a flower in the sky. Furthermore, if nirvana were a real thing, then nirvana would become conditioned. A thing that is not conditioned, nowhere does it exist. If nirvana is a thing, then at that time nirvana would become conditioned, because it is a thing, like consciousness. That which is not conditioned does not become a thing, for example, like a donkey's horn. In order to explain the opposite, a thing that is not conditioned, nowhere does it exist. It is said, "nowhere" refers to what is relied upon, that is, the nature of internal or external. "Anywhere" refers to the support, that is, place, time, or philosophical tenet. Furthermore, if nirvana were a real thing, how could nirvana not be dependent? A thing that is not dependent, no thing exists. If according to your system, nirvana is a thing, then it would become dependent, meaning it is dependent on the collection of its own causes. In this way, it is also not desired that nirvana is dependent, so what is it? It is non-dependent. If nirvana is a thing, how could nirvana not be dependent? It would not be non-dependent, because it is a thing, like consciousness and so forth. The opposite statement is, a thing that is not dependent, no thing exists. Here it is said, because one would fall into the faults as stated above, therefore nirvana is not a thing, that is true.

Then, why is that? Because of the cessation of afflictions and birth, death, and aging, nirvana is merely non-substantial. Statement: This is also unreasonable. Because of what? If, nirvana is not substantial, how can non-substantiality be established? For whom nirvana is not substantial, for him non-substantiality also does not exist. If nirvana is not considered substantial, and it is not thought that nirvana is substantial, then, at that time, how can nirvana become non-substantial? Because non-substantiality is also impossible to establish, this is your thought. Why is that? Because, for whom nirvana is not substantial, for him non-substantiality also does not exist. Thus it is said, here, abandoning the nature of substantiality and becoming something else, is called non-substantiality. Because of the fault that has already been stated, for which aspect nirvana is not substantial, for that aspect, that aspect of nirvana not being substantial, nirvana is also not non-substantial, because on the nature that has not established the nature of substantiality, the nature of non-substantiality itself is unreasonable, this is your thought. If nirvana is without afflictions and birth, death, and aging, then, in that case, the impermanence itself of afflictions and birth, death, and aging becomes nirvana. Because, the absence of afflictions and birth, death, and aging is impermanence itself, and not something else. Therefore, if impermanence itself becomes nirvana, that is also not what is desired, because it will become a fault of being without obscuration. Therefore, this is unreasonable. Furthermore, if nirvana is not substantial, how can nirvana not be dependent? For what is not dependent, non-substantiality does not exist. For this, impermanence itself is non-substantiality itself, and is not established by relying on substantiality, because impermanence itself is not observed on the horns of a donkey, etc. The characteristic depends on the object to be characterized to exist, and the object to be characterized depends on the characteristic to exist, therefore, the establishment of the characteristic and the object to be characterized are mutually dependent, if it does not depend on the substantiality of the object to be characterized, then the existence of impermanence itself will become dependent. Therefore, non-substantiality is also established by relying on. Therefore, if nirvana
