Because if it were not so, (thinking) not (emptiness) etc. would become meaningless. If you think that the results arising from Dharma and non-Dharma do not exist, then to show that the results are not empty, (the scripture) says: If the results arising from the cause of Dharma and non-Dharma exist in you, why are the results arising from Dharma and non-Dharma not empty? This means that (the Buddha) thought that this is emptiness, because it is dependent arising, like an image. Furthermore, go! Do! Dye! Look! Sit! etc. worldly terms, if you think that these dependent arisings have inherent existence, then you have harmed dependent arising. Harming dependent arising harms all worldly terms. To illustrate this, (the scripture) says: Whoever harms the emptiness of dependent arising harms all worldly terms. The word "whoever" here is a distinction of action, connected with the word "harms." Furthermore, if emptiness is harmed, then no action will occur, actions that have not begun will occur, and actions that are not done will occur. If things are not empty but have inherent existence, then because inherent existence does not exist, no one will do anything, just as no one will obscure the sky. Things that are not being done will also become things that are being done, and things that are not done will also become those who are doing, but these are not so, therefore things are not non-empty. Furthermore, if there is inherent existence, then beings will not be born, will not cease, will exist constantly, and will be free from various states. If things have inherent existence, then because inherent existence is not artificial and does not change, all these beings will not be born and will not cease. Just not being born and not ceasing,

Therefore, beings will exist permanently. Because it does not depend on cause and condition, for those who say non-emptiness, beings will not arise dependently and will be separated from various states. As the Blessed One said: If there is a little non-emptiness, the Victorious One would not make any prophecy, immutably, the real existence of each would remain permanent, without increasing and without completely decaying. Thus it is said. Similarly, in the Noble Elephant Strength it is also said: If the dharmas have some self-nature, the Victorious One and his Shravaka disciples would know it. Permanent dharmas would not pass into nirvana, and the wise would never be extinguished. Thus it is said. If one admits that things have self-nature, not only are worldly terms unreasonable, but also to show that the supramundane is also like that. If emptiness does not exist, then what has not been attained cannot be attained, and the work of ending suffering and the abandonment of all afflictions will not exist. Thus it is said. If emptiness does not exist, and all these will have self-nature, then at that time what has not been attained is only what has not been attained, so the fruit that has not been attained will not be attained. Similarly, because suffering has not been ended before, it will not be so either. Because all afflictions have not been abandoned before, they will not be abandoned later either. Therefore, because If one promises to say that things have self-nature, everything will be unreasonable. Therefore, whoever sees dependent arising, sees suffering, origin, cessation, and path. Whoever truly arises with emptiness as the nature of dependent arising, sees the four noble truths as they truly are. As it is said in the Sutra Showing the Absence of Entrance of All Dharmas: Manjushri, whoever sees all dharmas as unborn, completely knows suffering. Whoever sees all dharmas as having no self-nature, abandons the origin. Whoever sees all dharmas as completely pacified.
