How is it determined that seeing these as having the nature of things is solely due to ignorance? It is determined by reasoning. What is the reasoning here? Here, if there is something called a thing, then it must arise from either a thing or a non-thing. Similarly, if there is something called a non-thing, then it must also arise from either a thing or a non-thing. Therefore, neither of the two exists in either way. It is said: A thing does not arise from a thing, a thing does not arise from a non-thing, a non-thing does not arise from a non-thing, a non-thing does not arise from a thing. Briefly, a thing, which is truly existent, cannot arise from a thing, which is truly existent. Because the cause and effect cannot exist simultaneously, and also because for a birth that has already been obtained, another birth is meaningless. A thing also cannot arise from a non-thing. Why? Because a non-thing is destruction and complete destruction, and it is contradictory to a thing. Since it is contradictory to a thing, how can a thing arise from it? If it could arise, then a son could also be born from the daughter of a barren woman. Therefore, a thing cannot arise from a non-thing. Now, a non-thing also cannot arise from a non-thing. Because a non-thing is the nature of the opposite of a thing, how can it have the power to produce a result? If it had the power, then Nirvana would also have the power to produce a result. If a non-thing could arise from a non-thing, then a son could also be born from the daughter of a barren woman. But that is not the case, therefore, a non-thing cannot arise from a non-thing. Now, a non-thing also cannot arise from a thing. Because a non-thing is contradictory to a thing, how can it arise from a thing? If it could arise, then darkness could also arise from a lamp. Because when analyzed in this way, arising and ceasing do not exist, therefore it is seen only by ignorance.

These should be known. In another way, the previous view is different. For example, if there are arising and ceasing here, then they either depend on things or depend on non-things. If these two, things and non-things, are analyzed, they are not entirely existent, therefore, since there is nothing to rely on, arising and ceasing are negated. Therefore, it should be known: Arising and ceasing are not seen by ignorance itself. In order to show how things and non-things do not exist, it is said: Things do not arise from things, things do not arise from non-things, non-things do not arise from non-things, non-things do not arise from things. The meaning here is the same as before. Furthermore, if there is something called "thing", it will experience arising and ceasing because it arises and has change, then no thing exists, like the horns of a donkey, because its nature is unborn. If it is said that the unborn itself is not established, it is not that it is not established, for example: Things do not arise from themselves, nor do they arise from others. If it arises from itself and others, how can it arise from non-existence? This has already been explained in detail in the first chapter, so it will not be repeated. Because in this way, as described, arising does not exist in any way, therefore, how can it arise? It will not arise at all, this is his thought. It should be admitted without hesitation that the arising of things does not exist in any way. If it is not so, if one admits that things exist, then it will lead to the views of permanence and annihilation, because things are permanent and impermanent changes. If someone transcends the establishment of things as described above and insists that things exist, then he will undoubtedly be completely contrary to the scriptures, leading to the views of permanence and annihilation. Why? Because when analyzing things, it is either permanent or impermanent. If it is permanent, then he will necessarily say that it is permanent. However, if it is impermanent, then he will necessarily...
