So, what's the thought? Even if it's said that way, if it doesn't depend on the past, then those two cannot be established. Therefore, the present and the future time do not exist either. The present and the future do not exist because they do not depend on the past, like a donkey's horn. Because it is so, one should know that the present and future times do not exist. In that case, whether depending on the past or not depending on the past, the present and the future cannot be established. Similarly, whether depending on the present or not depending on the present, the past and the future, or whether depending on the future or not depending on the future, one should know that the past and the present cannot be established. The present and the future, whether depending on the past or not depending on the past, in order to compare the logic of the order of non-establishment with the same refutation, the logic of the order is this, the remaining two are alternated, the best and the worst, the middle, etc., one, etc., should also be known. It is said like this. How is it? The past and the future, if they depend on the present, the past and the future will exist in the present time. The past and the future time, if that does not exist, the past and the future time, how would they depend on it? Not depending on the present, those two cannot be established. Therefore, the past and the future time do not exist either. This is temporarily one time alternation. The past and the present, if they depend on the future, the past and the present will exist in the future time. The past and the present, if that does not exist, the past and the present, how would they depend on it? Not depending on the future, those two cannot be established. Therefore, the past and the present time do not exist either. This is the second time alternation. Like that, one should understand the two time alternations. Because of the separate observation, the three times do not exist, therefore time does not exist, and because there is no time, the nature of things also does not exist, thus it is established. How does one separately observe these three times?

Thus. The superior, inferior, and intermediate classes, and one, etc., should also be known. The superior, inferior, and intermediate classes, etc., are included by the word "etc.", such as virtue, non-virtue, and the unindicated; birth, abiding, and impermanence; the past extreme, the middle extreme, and the future extreme; the desire realm, the form realm, and the formless realm; learning and non-learning; and neither learning nor non-learning, etc., all those that exist in relation to the three things are included. The word "etc." in "one, etc." includes the two and the many. The superior, etc., and the one, etc., should be understood as explained by the explanation of the three times. Here it is said: Time is existent, because it possesses measure. Here, that which does not exist does not possess measure, like a rabbit's horn. Time has measure with distinctions such as moments, instants, short periods, days, nights, day and night, fortnights, months, solar eclipses, years, etc. Therefore, because it possesses measure, time is existent. It should be said: If something called time exists, then it should also possess measure, but it does not exist. Why? Non-abiding time does not grasp. What is the time to be grasped? Because the abiding is non-existent, how can the ungrasped time be established? If here something called time exists, abiding with distinctions such as moments, etc., if it grasps measure through the door of moments, etc., then what is called time, which grasps through the door of moments, etc., and abides permanently, is also non-existent. Therefore, in that way, non-abiding time does not grasp, because it does not abide, it does not become grasping. If time is only of the nature of abiding constantly, and it is manifested by moments, etc., as it is said: Time ripens occurrences, time gathers beings, time awakens from sleep.

"It is extremely difficult to transcend time." If someone thinks that the nature of existence with such characteristics is existent, then, it should be said that even so, the permanent time that is manifest and grasped by moments and so on is non-existent. Furthermore, why is permanent time non-existent? Because it is not grasped as being different from moments and so on. Moreover, if someone thinks that this time is of the nature of conditioned phenomena or of the nature of unconditioned phenomena, neither is the case. "Since arising, abiding, and ceasing are not established, there is no conditioned phenomenon. Since conditioned phenomena are completely unestablished, how can unconditioned phenomena be established?" This has already refuted the examination of conditioned phenomena. Therefore, in this way, whatever is to be grasped, permanent time is non-existent. Since time does not abide in this way and is non-existent, how can that which is not grasped, that is, ungrasped, be designated by moments and so on? As it is said, "How can time that is not grasped be designated?" Therefore, time is non-existent. Here it is said, it is true that there is no permanent thing called time that is established as being of a nature different from form and so on. So what is it? If it relies on formations, form, and so on, then the time that is examined can be expressed by the words moment and so on, therefore there is no fault. It should be said that even so, "If time depends on things, where is time when there are no things?" If it is established in that way as becoming time by relying on things. When the thing itself is non-existent, certainly its cause
