It should be explained in this way, that is to say, are those also dependent? Or do they become established without dependence? It should be combined with the statement that "both investigations are unreasonable." Among them, in order to show that the first investigation is unreasonable, it should be said, "From the ultimate point of view, the number one itself does not have the nature of one, because if it is a number, it has dependence, like two." After saying this, those should be combined in order as the subject, the property to be established, the reason, and the example. For example, if two is a number, it has dependence, therefore it also does not have the nature of two, similarly, if the number one is a number, it has dependence, therefore it also does not have the nature of one. The remaining two are also inferred by the word "etc.", and should be combined in this way: From the ultimate point of view, the number two itself does not have the nature of two, because if it is a number, it has dependence, it is one. Similarly, from the ultimate point of view, the number many itself does not have the nature of many, because if it is a number, it has dependence, like one. Thus, for the time being, they have shown that it is unreasonable for numbers to be established dependently. It is impossible to be established without dependence, and the second investigation is also combined appropriately as before. In order to show that those cannot be established with or without dependence, the verses should also be combined in this way: Having the nature of one and two, if it depends on many, having the nature of one and two, it should exist in many. Having the nature of one and two, if it does not exist in that, having the nature of one and two, how does it depend on that? Without depending on many, that one and two cannot be established. Therefore, the nature of one and the nature of two also do not exist. Thus it is said. Similarly, the verses inferring the remaining two should also be combined in this way: Having the nature of one and many, if it depends on two, having the nature of one and many, it should exist in two. Having the nature of one and many, if it does not exist in that, having the nature of one and many,

of its own nature. How can it depend on that? Without the nature of two, the establishment of those two is impossible. Therefore, the nature of one, and also many, do not exist. Like this. Similarly, possessing the nature of two and many, if it depends on one, possessing the nature of two and many, it will exist in one. Possessing the nature of two and many, if it does not exist there, possessing the nature of two and many, how can it depend on that? Without the nature of one, the establishment of those two is impossible. Therefore, the nature of two, and also many, do not exist. Like this, combine them. Through these, like before, the establishment and refutation should also be shown. Those who do not consider number to be different from things, those who consider that which has no second is one, and that and another are two, those two and another are three, and from then on it is considered many, this is because the refutation of the Samkhyas has been shown before, and therefore it also shows the refutation of the Vaisheshikas who consider the meaning of the word number, which is different from things, to exist as a substance. Through this occasion, it shows the refutation of the tenets of those among the Vaisheshikas who do not consider the meaning of the word called number to be different from things. Those people say that the number one is that which has no second. The name two is that one and another meeting. The name three is that those two and another meeting. From then on it is many. In order to show the refutation of those tenets, it should also be shown to them as before. In the ultimate sense, one does not have the nature of one, because it can be counted, for example, like other things besides that. Having said this, those should also be combined in order as the subject, the property to be proven, the property that proves, and the example. For example, other than one, two and so on, because they can be counted, therefore those do not have the nature of two and so on, similarly, one can also be counted, therefore it also does not have the nature of one. Similarly, two does not have the nature of two, and so on, should also be said, like this, combine them. In the ultimate sense, two does not have the nature of two.
