To examine and remain neutral indicates being associated with the pervasive activity of ignorance. Another form of neutrality is universally taught by the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, and thus there is a vast difference between the two. Similarly, seeing things as 'this world does not exist,' etc., is associated with a mind completely deluded by ignorance. Because all things are empty in nature, seeing them as unborn and unceasing is preceded by wisdom, and thus there is a vast difference between the two. Furthermore, merely uttering the words 'this world does not exist' while seeing non-existence is like a blind person saying 'this place is uncomfortable,' but because they have no eyes, they cannot see, and thus they become confused and stumble. Similarly, that person also says 'this world does not exist,' but because they lack the eye of wisdom, they cannot see, and thus they become tainted by those faults. This statement is not a valid response. Why? Because the opponent points out that nihilists and Madhyamikas have no difference in realizing the reality of things, and Buddhapālita did not state the reason for the difference. Saying 'it is appropriate to say this,' etc., explains that in response to the opponent saying 'they say that,' it is appropriate to say this, thus showing the words to answer them. Therefore, when do nihilists and Madhyamikas think they are the same? In the time of convention, or in the time of looking at reality? Having said this, it shows that they are very different in both times. For example, in the time of convention, those who are attached to denigrating cause and effect, thereby uprooting the aspect of virtue and entering all paths of non-virtuous actions, and harming the truth of convention itself. However, Madhyamikas do not denigrate the relationship of cause and effect as illusory and mirage-like, nor do they enter the path of non-virtuous actions, and from the continuum of contaminated aggregates, the aggregates of existence also arise, and from the cessation of the continuum of aggregates as a precursor, the present and future arise like dreams.
