To explain that there is no need to mention the absence of "I." For the great Bodhisattvas who abide in acting with non-discriminating wisdom, viewing all actions as unborn, what need is there to speak of seeing? Thus it is said. Thus, for those who realize that one and only reality, even the clinging that "I-grasping does not exist, my-grasping does not exist" does not exist. Therefore, it is said, "The grasping of I and mine, that too is not existent." This means that because "I" and "mine" etc. are nominally existent, and because the aggregates of sentient beings are unborn. Furthermore, the clinging that "I-grasping does not exist, my-grasping does not exist," if it is established that the aggregates of sentient beings rely on the skandhas, then the skandhas of sentient beings are unborn in the ultimate sense. Therefore, for them, the clinging that "I-grasping does not exist, my-grasping does not exist" also does not exist. This is the meaning. Because that (I-grasping) itself does not exist, just as someone with cataracts sees hairs, flies, etc., which are not actually there. It is said, "By what seeing does one not see I and mine, and not see that reality?" Because seeing existence and non-existence as existence is holding onto inverted views. This means that even the clinging that "I-grasping does not exist" itself does not exist. Just as someone with cataracts, due to weakened faculties, sees unreal things like hairs and flies, likewise, seeing "I-grasping and my-grasping do not exist" as existent with inverted views, one whose eye of wisdom is blinded by wrong views will not see that one and only reality. This is the teaching, that is, also seeing I-grasping and my-grasping as non-existent, and also seeing the knowledge of that non-existence as existent, is holding onto inverted views. Therefore, the reason is not established, because there exists an "I" that is the cause of I-grasping and my-grasping. Previously, the other party

They say, "I am the only one that exists. For those who have truly realized that body, senses, and mind, etc., are without self and what belongs to self, because they have the correct view of being without self-grasping and without grasping of what belongs to self." In order to show that this argument is not established, (the refuter says) why? Because, for those who believe that there is knowledge of being without self-grasping and without grasping of what belongs to self, there is the grasping of self, which is the cause of self-grasping and grasping of what belongs to self. Therefore, that is not the correct view of being without self-grasping and without grasping of what belongs to self. It is also not established in meaning, because the certainty of the nature of the word "without self-grasping and without grasping of what belongs to self" itself is not established. Therefore, this shows that the other party's argument itself is not established. Why? Because, the other party believes that there is knowledge of being without self-grasping and without grasping of what belongs to self, but because there is the grasping of self, which is the cause of self-grasping and grasping of what belongs to self, the certainty of the nature of the word "without self-grasping and without grasping of what belongs to self" itself is not established. If it is said that because one views the inner agent (person) as without self, one can eliminate self-grasping, and because consciousness is not self, one will not have grasping of what belongs to self towards other objects of body and senses, so there is no fault. This is because, previously, the Madhyamikas said, "Whatever is without self-grasping and grasping of what belongs to self, that also does not exist." Through this statement, for the sake of the pacification of self and what belongs to self, for those yogis who have become without self-grasping and grasping of what belongs to self, that knowledge that believes there is without self-grasping and grasping of what belongs to self also does not exist. Therefore, for those who see without self-grasping and grasping of what belongs to self with a distorted view, and thus lose the eye of wisdom, they will not truly see that. To this statement of the Madhyamikas, the Samkhyas say this: From our tenets, there is a self that is established by its own nature, without self-grasping and grasping of what belongs to self. Therefore, there is also a self that believes there is without self-grasping and grasping of what belongs to self, and he can also truly see that. Therefore, the fault that you Madhyamikas speak of, we

This is the statement saying, "In which aspect is it absent?" They say: Because, regarding the internal functions such as the senses belonging to the nature, the mind observes the object of no-self as no-self, in order to reverse the ego-grasping, therefore there is no ego-grasping. Moreover, the mind that does not belong to the self, which belongs to the category of mind, also focuses on the objects of the bodies and senses of others apart from oneself, thinking, "This is not mine, it belongs to another person," therefore it does not allow the grasping of "mine," so there is also no grasping of "mine." Thus, because there is no ego-grasping and no grasping of "mine," there exists the nature of the person called "having the awareness of self." It can also realize that sole Suchness, therefore the fault that you Madhyamikas speak of does not exist on our Samkhya side. To answer these words they have spoken, here an explanation is made: Because the ego-grasping exists as it is, seeing the self as the self; and because the arising of the grasping of "mine" towards its function and the sound of the basis, etc., does not reverse. Because it has not been established that there is no ego-grasping and no grasping of "mine," therefore this is not an answer. If there exists the nature of the person called "having the awareness of self," then, because the ego-grasping exists as it is, seeing the self as the self, it has not been established that there is no ego-grasping; and because the arising of the grasping of "mine" of the person towards the internal functions such as the senses belonging to the nature of the person, and the sound of the basis of the function, etc., does not reverse. Because it has also not been established that there is no grasping of "mine," therefore, because it is not that there is no ego-grasping and no grasping of "mine," the previous fault remains, therefore these words of the Samkhyas are not my answer. To show the source of this meaning, the treatise composed by the teacher Aryadeva is cited: Just as it says, if there exists something called self, then saying no-self is unreasonable. Or realizing that, Nirvana would become false. Thus it is said, if there exists something called self, then saying no-self is unreasonable, therefore ego-grasping will not be reversed. Or wanting ego-grasping to be reversed
