Where does it exist? For example, the sound of a lion, even when it is merely an approximate designation for a Brahmin's child, appears with the same true meaning as the lion's mane and clustered whiskers. Assertions and examples like this cannot be established, as shown below: The sound "I," being merely an approximate designation for the body, senses, and mind, is not truly established in that realm. Similarly, it cannot be truly established for other selves. Why? Because the sound of a lion, which is merely an approximate designation for a Brahmin's child, is said to exist in the lion itself, but the lion itself does not truly exist in the ultimate sense; it exists by imputation. Therefore, in the realm of the lion, the sound of the lion is not truly as it is. Thus, just as the meaning expressed by the sound of a lion, the lion itself exists by imputation, so in that realm, the sound of the lion is not truly as it is. Similarly, the meaning expressed by the sound "I," the self itself exists by imputation, so in that realm, the sound of "I" is not truly as it is. Alternatively, the approximate designation for some things is seen to exist in aggregates, because it is an approximate designation for universals, like the sound of a lion and so on. Therefore, the sound of "I" eliminates the very existence of being truly present in what is not an aggregate, so there is the fault of eliminating the distinction of the dharma in the vow. By saying this, the previous opponent's statement that the sound "I" truly exists in another realm, in order to establish this view, saying "because it is an approximate designation for some dharmas," shows a contradiction in meaning. These are the subject, the dharma to be established, the dharma of establishment, the example, the approximate combination, and the conclusion, combined in order. For example, the sound of a lion and so on, because it is an approximate designation for universals, the lion's claws and teeth are different, the majestic demeanor, the mane and clustered whiskers, and the tail raised high, etc., the terrifying aggregate is seen to exist, not an approximate designation for some things. Similarly, the sound "I" is also an approximate designation for universals, because the body, senses, and mind

Because it is seen to exist in the aggregate, it is not merely imputed to a certain part. Therefore, it eliminates the opponent's assertion that the term "I" exists only in the individual "I" and not in the aggregate. Therefore, the opponent's vow has the fault of eliminating the distinction of the dharma of the term "I" as the subject, which is imputed to a certain part. The opponent's reason, "because it is imputed to a certain part," contradicts the reason and example of the term lion, etc., being imputed to the whole. The term "I" cannot be established as truly existing only in a certain part, because the aggregate of body, senses, and mind is merely imputed to the whole. Therefore, it shows that there is no separate real realm of the individual "I" other than the aggregate of body, senses, and mind. The statement "Therefore, it also refutes the fault on the side of consciousness" means that the proof that a sound is imputed to a certain part because it is seen to exist in the aggregate, etc., also shows that on the side of consciousness, there is a fault of contradictory meaning because of the reason "because of the inverted cognition of another certain part." That is, any consciousness that has an inverted cognition of another certain part is seen to exist in the aggregate because of the inverted cognition of the whole. Like the consciousness that has an inverted cognition of a tree stump, etc. Therefore, it eliminates the assertion that the consciousness that cognizes "I" truly exists in the non-aggregate. Therefore, it can be connected in this way: there is a fault of eliminating the distinction of dharma in the vow. These are also connected in order, namely, the subject, the dharma to be established, the dharma that establishes, the example, the closely connected combination, and the conclusion. This is like the consciousness that cognizes a tree stump as a person, because it has an inverted cognition of the whole. Just as seeing the color and shape of a tree stump, etc., existing in the aggregate is not an inverted cognition of a certain part, so too the consciousness that cognizes "I" is also because it has an inverted cognition of the whole. Because seeing cause and effect existing in the aggregate is not an inverted cognition of a certain part, therefore it eliminates the opponent's assertion that the consciousness that cognizes "I" truly exists only in the individual "I" and not in the aggregate. Therefore, the opponent's vow
