The meaning is not established. Like this, in terms of ultimate truth, because for you, the different streams of past and present are not established as otherness. If one considers the otherness of non-different streams as a reason, then the example is not established. Like this, for the example of otherness of non-different streams, the different streams of Lhasbyin and offering are not valid, this is the statement. As a response to saying that, here the commentary itself says, because the reason is stated generally, there is no fault. Because I did not distinguish the otherness of different streams and non-different streams, but generally because it is otherness, the stream does not become reasonable, because the reason is stated generally, there is no fault. For those who say that they are both gods and humans, for them it is declared: If one side is a god, and one side is a human, then in that way the god itself is, and the human itself is, that is reasonable. Through this, from the doctrine of those who say both, in terms of the category of life, this present person is the previous god, and in terms of the category of body, this present person is also a human, thus for the doctrine of those who say that both are, in order to refute, this is declared. If half is a god, and half is a human, then your doctrine is unreasonable, thus it is shown. If that is so, what fault is there? If that is so, there will also be this fault, because of the transformation of permanence and impermanence. That is also unreasonable. Just as half dead and half alive is unreasonable, thus it is said. Therefore, because the nature of both is unreasonable, the basis that I existed in the past is not established, it is unreasonable to view the world as permanent. For those who say that it is neither permanent nor impermanent, for them it is declared: If permanence and impermanence, both are established, then non-permanent non-impermanent, establishment depends on intention. Because those are refuted, so because that is not established, and like those, that is also difficult to show, thus it is thought, this is in order to refute those who say that I am neither permanent nor impermanent.

Why is this taught? If permanence and impermanence are established, then it depends on wanting to establish it (referring to permanence and impermanence) by negating the two. However, since the two are not established, it is not established either; and just as it is very difficult to establish the two, it is also very difficult to establish it. Thus, since the self of the nature of the two is not established, the basis for the view that I was born in the past is not established, so it is unreasonable to think that the world is permanent. Moreover, in the ultimate truth: If something comes from somewhere, where will something go? Therefore, it has no beginning, and if it becomes permanent, then it does not exist. If a god or a person comes from the path of gods or the path of humans, where will other beings such as gods or humans go to dwell? Therefore, it has no beginning, and if it becomes permanent, then it does not exist, because the coming and going of beings or individuals is not established, so the refutation has already been shown in the previous statement. Thus, again, if in the ultimate truth, there is such a self as if a bird is contained in a vase, then it has no beginning, and if it becomes permanent, then it does not exist, so permanence is not established. Thus, since the permanence of the self like a bird contained in a vase does not exist, the basis for the view that I was born in the past is not established, so it is unreasonable to think that the world is permanent. Therefore, such impermanence is the conclusion of showing that it is unreasonable to think that the world is permanent among the eight views based on the past extreme. Now, in order to show that it is unreasonable to think that the world is impermanent among the eight views based on the past extreme, if it is said that it becomes impermanent, then it is also unreasonable, if there is no permanence, what will become impermanent? It also depends on permanence, or it is said that the view that the world is impermanent will arise on the basis of the view that I was not born in the past, because the nature of impermanence is established by eliminating it, and because the permanence of the self is not established, the basis for the view that I was born in the past is not established, so it is thought that the world is permanent.
