Furthermore, it is said that even without an intermediate state, the connection of the nature of the aggregates does not change through recitation, lamps, mirrors, sounds, crystals, seeds, and acids, and the wise should understand this. By this reasoning, the assertion of no intermediate state can also be established. Others say that if it were not a material body, it would not be able to follow the continuum of beings, because this is a special reason, so the previous statement has no fault. Others, namely the teacher Sthiramati himself, say that later people say to earlier people that because the mind-born body obtains another place, it follows the continuum of beings, so this reason is uncertain, so the intermediate state cannot be established. The refutation of this reason is that the former reason is that having a material body can follow the continuum of beings, like a lamp, because this is a special reason, so the former does not have the fault of uncertainty. This is what they say. Therefore, inferring from the meaning, the teacher Sthiramati himself admits that there is an intermediate state. They have already explained that consciousness (རྣམ་པར་ཤེས་པ་, vijñāna, consciousness) arises from the condition of formations (འདུ་བྱེད་, saṃskāra, formations). Now, in order to explain that name and form (མིང་དང་གཟུགས་, nāmarūpa, name and form) arise from the condition of consciousness, the scripture says: "If consciousness enters the womb, name and form will increase." Here it says that this also shows the nature, order, and connection of name and form arising from the condition of consciousness. It should be connected as "name and form increase from the condition of consciousness." Name refers to tending towards beings or being driven by afflictions, which refers to the four non-material aggregates. This shows the nature of name. Form refers to what can be manifested, which refers to the four great elements and the form caused by the four great elements. This shows the nature of form. Thus, name and form increase from the condition of consciousness, which is the order and connection. Here also, name and form are only caused by consciousness.

One should not be attached to "earth" either, because ignorance and so on are also its cause. Therefore, the word "name and form" should not be connected with "only the cause of consciousness." One should also not be attached to "only the name and form of the cause of consciousness," because the cause of the six sense bases of those born by transformation is also consciousness, and the cause of the name of the formless realm is also consciousness. Therefore, the word "only the name and form of the cause of consciousness" should not be connected. One should also not be attached to "only the name and form of the cause of consciousness," because the final mind of an Arhat is not a cause. Therefore, the word "only the name and form of the cause of consciousness" should not be connected. So, how should it be grasped? It should be connected as "name and form caused by consciousness and ignorance, etc., and the six sense bases of those born by transformation, and the name born in the formless realm, except for the continuum of an Arhat, will be formed." These explain that name and form are caused by consciousness. Now, in order to explain "name and form cause the six sense bases," it is said: "If name and form are formed, the six sense bases will arise." The word "said" is spoken, and this also explains the nature, order, and connection of name and form causing the six sense bases. It should be connected as "the six sense bases of the cause of name and form will arise." "Sense base" refers to the door through which consciousness arises. "Six" refers to the internal sense bases, which are considered to be the eye, ear, nose, tongue, body, and mind. The eye sense base is the object color and form, and the eye consciousness.
