For example, when using a rosary as a means, everything can be strung together, but because the mother bead is the main one, conch shells are not strung. Similarly, although the causes of actions include afflictions such as attachment, ignorance is the main one. Therefore, it is said that actions are conditioned by ignorance. If someone thinks, "Unwholesome actions arise from the cause of ignorance, because delusion is unwholesome, then how are wholesome actions?" This is a word of doubt from others. The answer is: Just as in the heavenly palace coexisting with ignorance, one practices virtue desiring to experience the pleasure of celestial nymphs playing, so ignorance is also a cause through transmission. Moreover, samsara is truly unwholesome, so the virtue belonging to it is also unwholesome. Therefore, ignorance is the cause of their manifestation, so there is no fault. It is said that the cause of the manifestation of those wholesome actions is ignorance. Furthermore, "existence" means that what exists is continuously reborn through the connection of cause and effect, which is another name for "rebirth." It means that when the five aggregates exist, the five realms of beings are continuously reborn through the connection of their own cause and effect, which is called "existence," another name for rebirth. "Because of existence" means for the sake of rebirth. In that meaning, the three types of actions should be associated. "Action" means the manifestation of actions, which is the nature of manifesting actions. "Three types" means the distinction of merit, non-merit, and immovability, or the distinction of bodily, verbal, and mental actions. This shows the meaning expressed by numbers. "What is manifested" means the distinction of small, medium, and large merit, etc., which shows that among the three, they are divided into nine categories by the distinction of small, etc. By those actions.

English
Approaching the contaminated. The term "approaching the contaminated" means approaching merit, approaching non-merit, and approaching the immovable. The term "action" means that by the actions of approaching merit, non-merit, and the immovable, one approaches the realms of merit, non-merit, and the immovable in order, as explained. In short, these manifest actions due to ignorance, and by actions, one approaches the various realms. Now, how do actions approach the various realms? To explain that consciousness arises from the condition of action, it is said: Conditioned by action, consciousness enters the realms of beings. By saying this, it also shows the nature, order, and connection of consciousness arising from the condition of action. That is, the consciousness arising from the condition of action connects itself to the birthplaces of the realms of beings. The term "conditioned by action" means that which has the condition of action is conditioned by action, and that is consciousness. By saying this, it shows that the meaning of the term "consciousness conditioned by action" is "consciousness of action's condition." The term "consciousness" means distinguishing individual things, and by saying this, it shows the nature of consciousness. The term "in the realms of beings" means in the realms of beings that go to the types of gods, etc., and by saying this, it shows the six realms of existence. The term "will enter" means will arise, and by saying this, it means that the consciousness conditioned by action will enter the realms of beings and connect itself, thus the order and connection. Here, one should not definitively hold that only the consciousness conditioned by action will enter, and by saying this, it shows that one should not connect the phrase "only the consciousness conditioned by action" as a statement. Nor should one definitively hold that only the consciousness conditioned by action does not enter.

Therefore, by the word "knowing," it is shown that the term "consciousness with the condition of action only" should not be used together. By the phrase "also, it should not be adhered to that only consciousness with the condition of action will enter," it is shown that the term "consciousness with the condition of action only" should not be used together. In order to explain the necessity of not adhering to it like these three situations. Because mental factors will also enter, and although an Arhat has action, he will not connect to existence again, and also because there are conditions for existence and other things. Therefore, the necessity of not adhering to it must be stated in order. Thus it is said. So, how should it be adhered to? It should be connected as "consciousness with the condition of action, together with mental factors, except for the continuum of an Arhat, is also connected with the conditions of craving and other things, and will connect the continuum in the birthplaces of beings." Here, the wisdom of the teachers differs. Some say that the intermediate existence, through the continuum of name and form, obtains the place of beings. Others say that consciousness is the condition of action, and merely by being born as a being, one can obtain beings. That is to say, for the phrase "consciousness is the condition of action, and will connect the continuum in the birthplaces of beings," the teachers of the Sarvastivadins and others say that through the intermediate existence, the continuum of name and form, one can obtain the place of beings. After dying and transferring from the form realm, in the intermediate existence between the form realm itself and the existence born in the formless realm, there is a continuum of name and form, so from the existence of death to the intermediate existence, and the existence of birth, the continuum continues uninterruptedly like the continuum of a lamp. After dying and transferring from the formless realm, in the intermediate existence between the formless realm itself and the existence born from the form realm to the formless realm, it is considered that there is no continuum of the intermediate existence.
