To claim to be following the words of the Madhyamaka school, if the opponent argues that since the Madhyamikas previously acknowledged causes, it is unreasonable not to acknowledge views, as it is impossible to establish anything without an object of focus. In response to this argument, if someone says that because there is no arising in ultimate reality, there is no external object, and therefore consciousness does not arise, then that person is following the words of the Madhyamaka school, and the doctrine of only acknowledging consciousness will decline. Furthermore, having accepted consciousness, if one also wishes to completely abandon it, then it is better to avoid contact with mud from the beginning than to wash it off later. This is to refute the doctrine of some Yogācārins who say that, first, when entering the conventional truth, one should negate external objects and only acknowledge consciousness. Later, when realizing the ultimate truth, one should even abandon consciousness itself. This is a refutation of those views. First, having accepted consciousness when entering the conventional truth, if one then wishes to completely abandon that consciousness when realizing the ultimate truth, then this is entering the Mahāyāna Madhyamaka school and is a stain on clarifying the truth of the two truths. Just as it is better to avoid contact with mud from the beginning than to first be smeared with it and then wash it off, similarly, first negating external objects and only acknowledging consciousness, and then abandoning consciousness itself, is to be stained by the defilement of clinging to the extremes of acceptance and rejection in the manner of arising and ceasing. Therefore, just as it is better to avoid the faults of the two extremes from the beginning than to wash off the defilement of clinging to the two extremes, it is good that the venerable teacher Nāgārjuna has shown the Madhyamaka path of establishing the two truths. It is not permissible for some Yogācārins to examine it in terms of acceptance and rejection. The scriptures also say: 'Bhagavan, those who perceive some dharmas as arising or ceasing do not have the appearance of the Buddha.' Bhagavan, those who are from sorrow

Those who seek complete liberation from things will not truly escape from samsara. Why is that? Because the Blessed One said that all characteristics are completely pacified, and all movements are calmed, that is nirvana. It is like saying: There is nothing to be removed here, nor is there anything to be added. Look at the truth as it is. Seeing the truth, one is liberated. It is like this. In order to explain this, just as one realizes that things are without inherent existence, one can also realize that consciousness is also without self and without arising. Therefore, in conventional terms, it can be understood that objects and consciousness both exist like illusions; in ultimate terms, it can also be understood that both objects and consciousness are without inherent existence. Therefore, the view that in conventional terms, objects do not exist, only consciousness exists, and that in conventional terms, one grasps only consciousness, but in ultimate terms, one wants to abandon consciousness, is not good. Here, if the Yogacharas say that first they meditate on the non-self of external objects, and then gradually meditate on the non-self of consciousness, and that in the end they converge on one meaning, so there is no fault. In order to answer this previous view that they raise from within, here, by explaining, it is said that if one first meditates on the object of external objects, and then gradually meditates on the object of consciousness and wisdom, then only through the sequence can one achieve the realization of non-self, so there is no need to be stingy about meditating together from the beginning. Saying this, because there is the fault of the defilement of acceptance and rejection and the contradiction of the two, one should accept the Madhyamaka school from the beginning. Therefore, if one does not see such imputed and dependent origination, one cannot achieve the pacification of all objects of focus, which is the conclusion of the first two observations. Therefore, if one analyzes in this way, the Yogacharas will say that when the nature of the imputed is non-existent and one does not cling to it, and when one does not cling to the nature of the dependent origination as a cause, one can truly follow
